Party for a Country of Solidarity

The Party for a Country of Solidarity (Spanish: Partido País Solidario, PPS) is a political party in Paraguay. It was formed in 2000 when a faction of the National Encounter Party led by Carlos Filizzola broke away to create a new party.

History

The party originated in 1996 as a faction of the National Encounter Party, the Movimiento Participación Amplia, Integración Solidaridad (PAIS). In 2000 Filizzola, who had been the National Encounter Party's President from April 1996 to March 1999, led the faction out of the National Encounter Party to form the Party for a Country of Solidarity.

The party first contested national elections in 2003, when it won two seats in the Chamber of Deputies with 3.3% of the vote. For the 2008 elections it was part of the Patriotic Alliance for Change, which won two seats.

Party

A party is a gathering of people who have been invited by a host for the purposes of socializing, conversation, recreation, or as part of a festival or other commemoration of a special occasion. A party will typically feature food and beverages, and often music and dancing or other forms of entertainment. In many Western countries, parties for teens and adults are associated with drinking alcohol such as beer, wine or distilled spirits.

Description

Some parties are held in honor of a specific person, day, or event, such as a birthday party, a Super Bowl party, or a St. Patrick’s Day party. Parties of this kind are often called celebrations. A party is not necessarily a private occasion. Public parties are sometimes held in restaurants, pubs, beer gardens, nightclubs or bars, and people attending such parties may be charged an admission fee by the host. Large parties in public streets may celebrate events such as Mardi Gras or the signing of a peace treaty ending a long war.

The Mighty Boosh (series 3)

The Mighty Boosh's third series was originally broadcast between 15 November 2007 and 20 December 2007. The series features five main cast members; Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding, Rich Fulcher, Michael Fielding and Dave Brown. The third series revolves around Howard Moon and Vince Noir (Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding), and the adventures they have whilst running a second-hand shop. A DVD of the series was released on 11 February 2008 in Region 2 and 7 August in Region 4.

Overview

Setting

Whereas the second series was set mainly in a flat in Dalston, England, the third series was set in a second hand shop below the flat called the Nabootique, owned by Naboo, and run by Howard Moon and Vince Noir. The flat, however, is re-used for most of the setting of the episode "Party".

Production

Series 3 had the smallest budget of all three series to date. Filming for the series took place in seven weeks, from July to September 2007, in a warehouse in a disused Ministry of Defence site in Surrey, England.

Party (Beyoncé song)

"Party" is a song recorded by American singer Beyoncé for her fourth studio album, 4 (2011). It features guest vocals from American rapper André 3000, and was released by Columbia Records as the third single from 4 on August 30, 2011. The song was written by Kanye West, Jeff Bhasker, Beyoncé, Dexter Mills, Douglas Davis and Ricky Walters and produced by Beyoncé and West and co-produced by Bhasker. A midtempo R&B song, "Party" exhibits elements of the 1980s funk and soul music, and samples the 1985 song "La Di Da Di". It recalls the work of New Edition and Prince, among others. Built on a 808-retro beat, multi-tracked harmonies, and a smooth groove, the song's instrumentation includes slow-bouncing synthesizers, keyboard tones, and drums. Lyrically, "Party" gives ode to political themes such as feminism and sexual empowerment. In his rap verses, André 3000 references milk and gets philosophical about his own career. "Party" was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 54th Grammy Awards.

Petro Poroshenko Bloc "Solidarity"

Petro Poroshenko Bloc "Solidarity" (Ukrainian: Блок Петра Порошенка «Солідарність», Blok Petra Poroshenka «Solydarnist») is a political party in Ukraine created on August 27, 2014. However it has its roots in a parliamentary faction called Solidarity created in 2000 and has existed since in various forms as a political outlet of Petro Poroshenko.

The party won the 2014 Ukrainian parliamentary election with 132 seats, more than any other party.

On 28 August 2015 the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform merged into the party. Subsequently UDAR party leader and Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko became the new party head, replacing Yuriy Lutsenko.

History

Solidarity (2001–2002)

The party started in 2000 as a parliamentary faction called "Solidarity", set up by Petro Poroshenko, until then a member of the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) faction.Taras Kuzio claims that this happened with the help of then President Kuchma, who allegedly wanted to limit the influence of the SDPU(u). Many deputies elected in 1998 for the Peasant Party of Ukraine and Hromada joined the new parliamentary faction. Based on his parliamentary faction Poroshenko eventually established the Party of Ukraine's Solidarity. In 2000 that party merged into what would become the Party of Regions (later to become for a period the biggest party of Ukraine) and Poroshenko became a Party of Regions deputy.

Solidarity (Scotland)

Solidarity (full name Solidarity – Scotland's Socialist Movement) is a political party in Scotland, launched on 3 September 2006 as a breakaway from the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP). It was formed by two of the Scottish Socialist Party's six MSPs, Tommy Sheridan and Rosemary Byrne, in the aftermath of Sheridan's libel action.

On 23 December 2010, Tommy Sheridan was convicted of perjury during the 2006 libel action, and sentenced to three years imprisonment on 26 January 2011. Solidarity performed poorly in the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, achieving only 2,837 votes or 0.14% of the overall regional list vote.

Solidarity has one elected official in Scotland; councillor Pat Lee in South Lanarkshire. Lee was elected as an SNP councillor and defected to Solidarity in May 2015. Solidarity has been accused of using entryist tactics in North Lanarkshire, with it being claimed that activists close to the party have infiltrated SNP branches in the area.

The party is considering running under the Hope Over Fear banner for the 2016 Scottish parliamentary election.

Solidarity (U.S. newspaper)

Solidarity, a newspaper published by the Industrial Workers of the World, was an eastern U.S. publication. The newspaper, the official periodical of the organization in its early years, was born of the McKees Rocks strike in 1909, initially by the IWW's Pittsburgh-New Castle Industrial Council. During the IWW's involvement in the local steel industry in New Castle and in Butler, Pennsylvania, the entire editorial and production staff of Solidarity was jailed.

Over the years, Solidarity had many different editors. Publication was carried on in New Castle, Pennsylvania. By Aprile of 1913, publication had moved to Cleveland, Ohio where it remained until March 3, 1917. The newspaper began publishing in Chicago, Illinois on March 10, 1917.

The first issue of Solidarity was published on December 18, 1909, and publication lasted until March 18, 1917. In November, 1917, publication of Solidarity was suspended and replaced by Defense News Bulletin, which chronicled the IWW's legal campaign to defend union members and leaders who had been arrested under the government's anti-syndicalism campaign. Defense News Bulletin continued publication until July 1918.
