G. Parameshwara

Dr. G. Parameshwara (born 6 August 1958) is the current Home Minister of Karnataka and also the current president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee since October 2010.

Early life and education

Dr. G. Parameshwara was born as 3rd child of Ex-MLC(Legislative council) Shikshana Bhishma Dr. H M Gangadharaiah and Smt. Gangamalamma on 6 August 1953 in Gollahalli, Tumkur. He grew up in the peaceful village of Gollahalli (now Siddharthanagar) with his family. His primary education was at Gollahalii and in Heggere, Tumkur. He would walk 4 km every day to school. He did his high school education from Siddhartha School at Golahalli, which was established by his father. He joined government PU College in Tumkur and later got a seat in B.Sc. Agricultural science in University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Bangalore. He followed his father’s footsteps and began his social work at a very early age by joining the National Cadet Corps (India). He was an excellent athlete and would participate in all the athletic and inter college events representing University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (Gandhi Krushi Vignana Kendra) and win medals every time. His University meet record in 100meters hurdle is still unbroken. After completing the B.Sc. In Agricultural science, he did his masters from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (Gandhi Krushi Vignana Kendra). He was recognized by the Government of Karnataka and was provided with Scholarship for his higher studies in Australia for his Doctor of Philosophy in Plant physiology from Waite Agricultural Research Institute, University of Adelaide, Adelaide.

Parameshwara (God)

"Parameshwara" Sanskrit Transliteration "Parameshvara" means the Supreme God. Parameshvara is Transliterated from the Sanskrit Word, ईश्वर (Pronunciation: īśvára). It refers to the sole Deity in Monotheism. The word "Param" meaning the highest is added to Ishvara to intensify the title of God.

Etymology

The word "Parameshvara" is a compound word formed by joining three words Param + Ish + Vara. The word 'Param' means 'Supreme'. The word 'Ish' (Isha) means 'The Ruler, Master or Owner'. The word 'Vara' means 'The Best, The Noblest or The Excellent'. Thus the word Parameshvara literally means 'The Excellent Supreme Ruler or Master'. Similarly, the word Maheshvara (Maha + Ishvara) means 'The Great Master or The Excellent Ruler'. Similarly, Lord Shiva is also called 'Mahesha' (Maha + Isha) which also means 'The Great Lord or Master'. In Shaivism all these words are synonymous to "Lord Shiva". Lord Shiva is revered as "Parameshvara Mahadeva" and "Vishveshvara Mahadeva" in Shaivism Scriptures.
