Usher may refer to:

Usher (2004 film)

Usher is a 2004 film written and directed by Roger Leatherwood. It is loosely adapted from the short story "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe. It tells the story of a young hitman who falls on hard times and gets a job in a movie theatre. The theatre seems to have a personality of its own and the hitman, named Ash, finds himself losing his personality as he falls into a day-to-day work routine.

The feature film premiered at the 2004 Telluride Indie Film Festival (now defunct) and won Best Feature. Additionally, Thomas Alexander won the award for "Best Actor in a Feature" from Wicked Pixel's 2004 "Cinema Edge" awards and was reviewed by Film Threat magazine (online) and Shock Cinema.

Since November 2009 the film has been being posted in short non-sequential segments, one a week, by ArtOverLife Studios.

Roger Leatherwood directed the short animated film "Lieing Man" in 2008.

The Journal of the American Musicological Society is a peer-reviewed academic journal and an official journal of the American Musicological Society. It is published by University of California Press and covers all aspects of musicology.

The Journal of the American Musicological Society has been published three times a year since 1948. It was preceded by the annual Bulletin of the American Musicological Society (1936–1947) and the annual Papers of the American Musicological Society (1936–1941). Online versions of the journal and its predecessors are available at JSTOR and the University of California Press.

Papers (software)

Papers is a reference management software for Mac OS X and Windows, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing essays and articles. It is primarily used to organize references and maintain a library of PDF documents and also provides a uniform interface for document repository searches, metadata editing, full screen reading and a variety of ways to import and export documents.

Development

Papers was developed by Alexander Griekspoor and Tom Groothuis while studying towards their Ph.D.s at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. Faced with working with hundreds of digital publications in PDF format, the pair worked on Papers to provide an iTunes-like approach to document management. Papers was originally released as a public preview in February 2007, followed by the full 1.0 version a few months later. A new version of the software was released and put for sale in the third quarter of 2013, along with a new iPhone/iPad app. Both products went under a considerable amount of criticism from new and returning users, who experienced a number of issues, ranging from lost databases and annotations to incompatibility between mobile and desktop apps. Users criticised Mekentosj and Springer, respectively developer and owner of Papers, for putting up for sale a beta version of the software and their slowness in addressing problems that effectively rendered the software unusable. The company is also criticized for unresponsive support and the unusual way of handling support matters on a private basis, i. e no public discussions of bug reports or other matters.
