Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, known in Europe and Australia as Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros. and in Japan as Mario & Luigi RPG Paper Mario MIX (Japanese: マリオ&ルイージRPG ペーパーマリオMIX, Hepburn: Mario & ruīji RPG pēpāmario MIX), is a role-playing video game developed by AlphaDream and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. The game is the fifth title in the Mario & Luigi series, crossing over with elements and style of characters from the Paper Mario series. It was released internationally in December 2015, and in North America on January 22, 2016.

Plot

While attempting to fix a hole in Princess Peach's castle library, Luigi trips and accidentally knocks over a mysterious book containing the Paper Mario world, causing the paper-thin residents within it to spread across the Mushroom Kingdom. Afterwards, Bowser combines his evil army with that of his paper counterpart, Paper Bowser, and they kidnap Peach and her counterpart, Paper Peach. Mario and Luigi must now team up with Mario's counterpart, Paper Mario, to set everything right, defeat the Bowsers, and bring all the paper people back to the book.

The Mario franchise has inspired a variety of Mario role-playing games (RPG) to be released on multiple Nintendo video game consoles. All the games feature Mario as the protagonist, who is often accompanied by one or more playable characters, including existing Mario characters and original characters introduced in each game.

The first game to introduce RPG elements into the Mario franchise was Super Mario RPG, developed by Square and released in 1996 for the Super Famicom and SNES. The game does not have a direct sequel. Considered to be its thematic and spiritual sequels, two successive RPG-themed Mario series, the Paper Mario series and the Mario & Luigi series, followed conventions established in the original. The Paper Mario games were developed by Intelligent Systems, a subsidiary of Nintendo, and are renowned for their distinctive visual style, which consists of two-dimensional paper cutout characters moving about in three-dimensional papercraft worlds. The Mario & Luigi games were developed by AlphaDream, another subsidiary of Nintendo, all of which appeared solely on handheld consoles. The most recent entries in each series are the Nintendo 3DS games: Sticker Star and Paper Jam. Mario

Mario (Japanese: マリオ, Hepburn: Mario, [ma.ɽi.o]) (English /ˈmɑːrioʊ/; Italian: [ˈmaːrjo]) is a fictional character in the Mario video game franchise, created by Nintendo's Japanese video game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto. Serving as the company's mascot and the eponymous protagonist of the series, Mario has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation. Depicted as a short, pudgy, Italian plumber who resides in the Mushroom Kingdom, his adventures generally center upon rescuing Princess Peach from the Koopa villain Bowser. His younger brother is Luigi.

The Mario franchise is the best-selling video game franchise of all time. Over 210 million units of the overall Mario series of games have been sold. Outside of the Super Mario platform series, other Mario genres include the Mario Kart racing series, sports games such as the Mario Tennis and Mario Golf series, role-playing games such as Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario, and educational games such as Mario Is Missing! and Mario's Time Machine. The franchise has branched into several mediums, including television shows, film, comics and licensed merchandise. Since 1995, Mario has been voiced by Charles Martinet.

Plot

Mario (Petermann) is a 10-year-old autistic boy who is mute and hard of hearing. He has an 18-year-old brother whom he admires greatly. One day, Simon (Reddy) becomes involved with a woman and, as a result, their relationship becomes strained. Mario finds himself without his brother and his parents who are always watching over their island during the tourist season.
