Float (b-boy move)

The float is a b-boying move in which the body is held parallel to the floor while balancing on one or both hands. Though it appears to demand great strength, the float actually requires balance above all because the breaker's weight is supported on the elbows which are firmly planted ("stabbed") into the lower abdomen near the ASIS.

Stationary floats are often employed as freeze poses. On the other hand, breakers can "walk" with floats by shifting weight from one hand to the other and thus moving in a straight line or circle. These moving floats can be made to spin very fast and become the first power moves that were done in the 80's.

Variants

Floating point

In computing, floating point is the formulaic representation that approximates a real number so as to support a trade-off between range and precision. A number is, in general, represented approximately to a fixed number of significant digits (the significand) and scaled using an exponent; the base for the scaling is normally two, ten, or sixteen. A number that can be represented exactly is of the following form:

where significand ∈ Z, base ∈ N, and exponent ∈ Z.

For example:

The term floating point refers to the fact that a number's radix point (decimal point, or, more commonly in computers, binary point) can "float"; that is, it can be placed anywhere relative to the significant digits of the number. This position is indicated as the exponent component, and thus the floating-point representation can be thought of as a kind of scientific notation.

A floating-point system can be used to represent, with a fixed number of digits, numbers of different orders of magnitude: e.g. the distance between galaxies or the diameter of an atomic nucleus can be expressed with the same unit of length. The result of this dynamic range is that the numbers that can be represented are not uniformly spaced; the difference between two consecutive representable numbers grows with the chosen scale.

Float (sculpture)

Float is a public artwork by American artist Peter Flanary located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in front of Sandburg Hall, which is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

Description

The sculpture is nestled into a deep ravine and takes advantage of the lay of the land. Flanary has said that before creating any sculpture, "I go to the desired location where the sculpture will be built and just sketch." (Phone interview with Peter Flanary December 4 2pm). "Float" plays with the weight of materials and combines a bronze structure of a canoe with the heavy granite stone. The piece is approximately 15 feet high and barely rises to the level of the sidewalk leading to Sandburg Hall.

Float was purchased with $25,000 that was set aside for artwork during the building of Sandburg Hall. The artist originally meant for the piece to feature a cart with an anvil on top and a star reigning over. Sandburg Hall's architect thought that this design demonstrated a communist ideal and forced Flanary to come up with something else.

Paper (album)

Paper is the debut solo album from Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson. This album contains brand new material along with songs that were initially written for Robinson's 2002-2003 project, Hookah Brown. Robinson handled guitar, bass, and other instruments as well as taking over the lead vocals, with the gaps being filled in by Joe Magistro (drums), Eddie Harsch (keyboards, credited as Eddie Hawrsch), Donnie Herron (fiddle, violin) and his son Taylor Robinson (percussion).

Paper, stylized as PAPER, is a New York City-based independent magazine focusing on fashion, pop culture, nightlife, music, art and film. Past cover models include Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Prince, Jeremy Scott, CL, and Jennifer Lopez.

It has been known to have celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian pose nude for their covers.

Paper was founded and launched in 1984 by editors Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovits (with Lucy Sisman and Richard Weigand) as a black and white 16-page fold-out (production was done in the offices of The New York Times).

The magazine has since evolved into a monthly print and digital magazine. Articles, photos, interviews, and news can be found archived on their website.

"Break The Internet"

In November 2014, Kim Kardashian was the cover star of the “Break the Internet” issue. Ms. Kardashian was interviewed by Paper contributor Amanda Fortini for the spread “No Filter: An Afternoon with Kim Kardashian.” The photos for the issue were taken by Jean–Paul Goude. The shoot was a re-creation of Goude’s “Champagne Incident”, a series of photographs from his 1982 book Jungle Fever. The cover photo, as well as the rest, feature a fully nude Kim Kardashian.

Scientific literature

Scientific literature comprises scholarly publications that report original empirical and theoretical work in the natural and social sciences, and within an academic field, often abbreviated as the literature. Academic publishing is the process of contributing the results of one's research into the literature, which often requires a peer-review process. Original scientific research published for the first time in scientific journals is called the primary literature.
