Pannaipuram

Pannaipuram is a panchayat town in Theni district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located hill foot of "Western Ghats" sharing its border with Kerala and has very good literacy. Bommaiyaswamy (Shiva) Temple is located here. Most of the people in Pannaipuram are engaged in Cardamom cultivation in nearby Kerala hills.

Taluk : Uthamapalayam, District : Theni, Constitution : Cumbum(From 2011), Earlier it was Bodinayakkanur.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Pannaipuram had a population of 8924. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Pannaipuram has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 56%. In Pannaipuram, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Name

In tamil Pannai means cattle farm and puram means village or small town. People who lived in the village were having cattle farm and mostly did agriculture. The cattle grazing grounds were at the western ghats foot hills adjacent to the village, hence the origin of name Pannaipuram.
