Lady Pank

Lady Pank is a popular Polish rock band, started in 1981 in Warsaw by Jan Borysewicz and Andrzej Mogielnicki. Its first hit was Mała Lady Punk ("Little Lady Punk").

Lady Pank garnered some attention in the United States in 1986, when MTV placed the video for the band's single Minus Zero on rotation. The title was somewhat changed for the English language release; the original Polish title Mniej niż zero means "less than zero".

The video for one of the band's greatest hits Zawsze Tam Gdzie Ty is set on Chicago's 'L', the Quincy Station in particular.

Lineups and musicians

Jan Borysewicz and Janusz Panasewicz have been with the group since the beginning, and have maintained a specific and recognizable sound for the quintet. Most of the lead vocals are done by Panasewicz, and occasionally by Borysewicz.

Pantothenate kinase

Pantothenate kinase (EC 2.7.1.33, PanK; CoaA) is the first enzyme in the Coenzyme A biosynthetic pathway. It phosphorylates pantothenate (vitamin B₅) to form 4'-phosphopantothenate.

Types

Three distinct types of PanK has been identified - PanK-I (found in bacteria), PanK-II (mainly found in eukaryotes, but also in the Staphylococci) and PanK-III, also known as CoaX (found in bacteria). Eukaryotic PanK-II enzymes often occur as different isoforms, such as PanK1, PanK2, PanK3 and PanK4.

PANK2 mutation is the cause of Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration, formerly called Hallervorden-Spatz syndrome. This rare disease presents with profound dystonia, spasticity and is often fatal.

Pantothenate kinase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PANK1 gene.

This gene encodes a protein belonging to the pantothenate kinase family. Pantothenate kinase is a key regulatory enzyme in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A (CoA) in bacteria and mammalian cells. It catalyzes the first committed step in the universal biosynthetic pathway leading to CoA and is itself subject to regulation through feedback inhibition by CoA. Alternative splicing has been observed at this locus and three variants, each encoding a distinct isoform, have been identified.
