Pakistan Peoples Party

The Pakistan People's Party (Urdu: پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی‎, commonly referred to as the PPP) is a centre-left, socialist-progressive, and social democratic political party in Pakistan. Affiliated with the Socialist International, its political philosophy and position, in the country's political spectrum, is considered centre-left, involves supporting public ownership, egalitarianism, equality, and strong national defense. Since its foundation in 1967, it had been a major and influential political left-wing force in the country and its party's leadership has been dominated by the members of the Bhutto-Zardari family. Its centre of power lies in the southern province of Sindh.

Since its formation in 1967, the PPP has been voted into power on five separate occasions (1970, 1977, 1988, 1993, 2008). Once regarded as the most influential political party in the country, it is the largest opposition party in the National Assembly (lower house), leading the consolidated leftist alliance in the Parliament. However, the party maintained its majority control of Senate (upper house) and governing party in Sindh and Azad Kashmir۔

Qaumi Watan Party

Qaumi Watan Party (Pashto: قومي وطنپال ګوند‎; Urdu: قومی وطن پارٹی‎), abbreviated as QWP and formerly called Pakistan Peoples Party–Sherpao (PPP–S), is one of the prominent political parties in Pakistan, that split away from the Pakistan Peoples Party just before the 2002 general election. PPP–S was named after its leader Aftab Ahmad Sherpao. Differences had cropped up between PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and Senior Leader Aftab Ahmad Sherpao in 1999 and the latter was expelled from the PPP by the former, thus creating PPP–S. In October 2012, it was renamed to Qaumi Watan Party when it changed its political agenda and declared itself as a Pashtun neo-nationalist party.

Name change

The name and manifesto of the party were formally changed on October 17, 2012. It was renamed from "Pakistan Peoples Party–Sherpao" to "Qaumi Watan Party". The tri-color flag was also changed by replacing the green color with white. Aftab Ahmad Sherpao said Qaumi Watan Party will work for rights of the Pashtuns of the entire region, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi, Balochistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

People's Party

The People's Party, Peoples Party, or Popular Party, is any of several political parties claiming to speak for the people. People's Parties in various countries run the gamut from left to right. In Europe it often represents centre-right and Christian democrat or national conservative parties. Translations into English of the names of the various countries' parties are not always consistent, but People's Party is the most common.

People's Party (Utah)

The People's Party was a political party in Utah Territory during the late 19th century. It was backed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and its newspaper, the Deseret News. It opposed Utah's Liberal Party.

Beginnings

The People's Party emerged in 1870 in response to the non-Mormon Liberal Party. In fact, the initial slate of candidates for the 1870 Salt Lake City election was approved on February 9 by citizens who had swarmed into the first meeting of Liberals in order to hijack and disrupt it. Daniel H. Wells, the incumbent mayor, easily won the first contested Salt Lake election 2301 to 321.

Previously, political candidates ran without party affiliation, and LDS candidates usually found themselves unopposed. With organized opposition to LDS candidates, the LDS leaders found having their own party expedient. Historian Ronald W. Walker states that the party's name was selected to combat the notion that Brigham Young, himself not an elected official since 1857, was a tyrant. The People's Party, as the name intentionally suggested, claimed to speak for the Latter-day Saints, vast majority of citizens, in Utah Territory.

Peoples Party (Sierra Leone)

The Peoples Party of Sierra Leone was a political party formed by Lamina Sankoh in 1948. The party sought to unite the British Crown Colony of Freetown with the protectorate of Sierra Leone, which were governed separately until independence in 1961. The party merged with 2 other organizations (The Protectorate Education Progressive Union and The Sierra Leone Organisation Society) in 1951 to form the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), which is today one of the two major parties in the government of the country.

Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto)

The Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) (Sindhi: پيپلزپارٽي شهيدڀٽو‎) (abbreviated as PPP-SB) is a political party in Pakistan and one of three breakaway factions of the old Pakistan Peoples Party. The party is currently headed by Ghinwa Bhutto, the widow of Murtaza Bhutto.

In December 2012, Ghinwa Bhutto stated that her stepdaughter Fatima Bhutto would contest in the 2013 general elections for a seat in the National Assembly on behalf of the Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed). Fatima was not present on the occasion, although Fatima is known for her outspoken public stance in the past where she had several times expressed no desire to run for public office, ruling a political career out "entirely because of the effect of dynasties on Pakistan" (referring to the Bhutto family's involvement in politics that has continued through generations of the family) and nowadays it is generally accepted that the PTI has taken over the old PPP-SB cadres.
