Terence Ernest "Terry" Britten (born July 1947) is an English singer-songwriter and record producer, who has written songs for Tina Turner, Cliff Richard, Olivia Newton-John, Status Quo and Michael Jackson amongst many others. Britten (along with co-writer Graham Lyle) won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1985 for "What's Love Got to Do with It".
Britten is a native of Manchester, but began writing for the Adelaide, Australia band The Twilights, a popular 1960s band for which he played lead guitar. At times he co-wrote with Glenn Shorrock and Peter Brideoake. He also recorded a single under his own name, "2000 Weeks" / "Bargain Day" (1969).
Britten was a band member of Quartet with Kevin Peek, Alan Tarney and Trevor Spencer who recorded one album with Decca Records in the UK, which remains unreleased. One single was issued in 1969 on Decca in the UK and Australia and London in the US: "Now" / "Will My Lady Come" (Decca UK-F12974, Aust Y-8977, US London LON 1031) and a second single in the UK only in 1970 "Joseph" / "Mama Where Did You Fail" (Decca F13072).
Painter Man is a song by the music group, The Creation. The song was the group's second, and most successful, single.
"Painter Man" was later covered by the 1970s pop group Boney M., and reached number 10 in the UK single charts in 1979. The song was included on their 1978 album Nightflight to Venus and had been released in Continental Europe as the double A-side "Rasputin"/"Painter Man" in 1978. In the UK the song was, however, given A-side status and also released as a 12" single in clear red and clear yellow vinyl.

Went to college, studied arts
To be an artist make a start
Studied hard, gettin' my degree
But no one seemed to notice me
Painter man, painter man
Who wanna be a painter man
Painter man, painter man
Who wanna be a painter man
Tried cartoons and comic books
Dirty postcards could have done
Here was where the money laid
Classic art has had it's day
Painter man, painter man
Who wanna be a painter man
Painter man, painter man
Who wanna be a painter man
Did adverts for T.V.
Household shops and brands of tea
Labels all around the cans
Who wanna be a painter man
Painter man, painter man
Who wanna be a painter man
Painter man, painter man
Who wanna be a painter man
