Ox-Tales refers to four anthologies of short stories written by 38 of the UK's best known authors. All the authors donated their stories to Oxfam. The books and stories are loosely based on the four elements (Earth, Fire, Air and Water)
The Ox-Tales books were published in partnership with Green Profile in order to raise revenue to fund Oxfam's projects which fight poverty around the world. Oxfam receives a percentage of the cover price of each book sold (£3.50 per book if bought directly from an Oxfam shop or Oxfam's online store and 50p if the books are purchased through other retailers).
The themes of the collections are intended to represent four aspects of Oxfam's work:
Each book contains a poem by Vikram Seth and an afterword written by Oxfam, detailing their work in that area.
38 British and Irish based authors contributed to this project.
Ox Tales, also known as The Tales of Boes' Gang (げらげらブース物語, Geragera Būsu Monogatari), is an animated television series produced by Telecable Benelux B.V. and Cosmos Studio in association with Saban Entertainment. It was a co-production between Japan and the Netherlands based on a Dutch comic strip Boes created by Wil Raymakers and Thijs Wilms. The series ran on the Japanese network TV Tokyo from April 7, 1987–March 29, 1988. It consists of 102 15-minute episodes, which were usually transmitted as 51 half-hour shows of two episodes each.
The series has been aired in many countries outside Japan and has been dubbed and subtitled in English and numerous other languages.
The plot follows the adventures of Ollie the ox as he runs The Funny Farm, containing possibly every creature known, with his best friend Jack the turtle while narrated by a sarcastic toucan.
Ox Tales still continues to appear as a column strip in several Dutch daily and weekly newspapers.
I make faces, I make faces,
But I can't get into your window,
I make wax dolls, I stick pins in,
To the most exciting places,
Oh, oh, oh, you're so aluminium,
Oh, oh, oh, you're aluminium,
It could be so lovely,
It could be so lovely.
Your name's georgeous, your name's ugly,
Your name's written on my tombstone,
Your name's worthless, your name's useless,
Your just another welfare number.
Oh, oh, oh, you're aluminium,
Oh, oh, oh, you're aluminium,
It could be so lovely,
It could be so lovely.
I make faces, I make faces,
But I can't get into your window,
I make wax dolls, I stick pins in,
To the most exciting places,
Oh, oh, oh, you're aluminium,
Oh, oh, oh, you're aluminium,
It could be so lovely,
It could be so lovely.
