Bliss (2006 film)

Bliss (Chinese: 浮生; pinyin: Fú shēng; literally: "Floating Lives") is a 2006 Chinese family drama film directed by Sheng Zhimin and produced by Hong Kong director Fruit Chan. The film was Sheng's first as a director, having previously served as a line producer for Chan and Jia Zhangke on films such as Durian Durian and Platform.

Though primarily a mainland production, the film was financed in part by the Hong Kong-based See Movie Ltd. and was distributed by Hong Kong's Golden Network Asia.

Bliss tells the story of a modern and non-traditional family living in Chongqing. Lao Li (He Xingquan) is a once-divorced retired police officer, currently living with his second wife Zhang Xiu'e (Guan Jiangge). Lao Li's first wife ran off years ago, forcing him to raise his son, Jianjun alone.

Bliss (automobile)

The Bliss automobile was manufactured by the E. W. Bliss Company of Brooklyn, New York, in 1906. The company was founded in 1867 and for a short duration, diversified into automobile manufacturing.

History

Eliphalet Williams Bliss of Brooklyn, founded the E. W. Bliss Company in 1867. The company was diversified in many areas including the manufacture of shells and projectiles as well as tools, dies and presses for use in sheet metal work. Over the years, Bliss took out patents for specialty machines for manufacturing and soldering metal cans and for shaping and casting sheet metal. Today the company is still in business in the manufacture of metal forming type industrial machinery and equipment machine tools.

In 1904, Motor Age Magazine published a story about how “The E.W. Bliss Company has taken up the manufacture of automobiles." Experiments with prototypes had been so successful that plans were made for the installation of a plant "which will permit extensive operations along these lines.”

Biography

Bliss was founded in 1986 by vocalist Rachel Morrison and bassist Paul Ralphes, who were the primary songwriters. Apart from the two founder members, the group also consisted of Paul Sirett (guitars), Chris Baker (drums) and Roger Askew (keyboard, piano, Hammond organ). In 1987 they released two singles on the label Survival, "I Hear You Call" and "Your Love Meant Everything". Between March and September 1988 the quintet recorded their debut album, Loveprayer, which was released through Parlophone/EMI in 1989 and which also featured a number of session musicians.Loveprayer failed to make an impact in the U.S. and the UK, but saw success in Europe, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand.

By the time they recorded their sophomore effort, 1991's A Change in the Weather, Tommy Schmieder had taken over on guitar and Michael Witzel on drums. A Change in the Weather was produced by Rupert Hine and featured guest appearances from Paul Carrack and Liam O'Maonlai from Hothouse Flowers. Following this, the group toured with Van Morrison, Chris Isaak, and The Neville Brothers. Soon after the release of A Change in the Weather, Morrison left the group to care for a newborn child. Ralphes moved to Brazil to pursue a career in production.

Open Programming Language

Open Programming Language (OPL) is an embedded programming language for portable devices that run the Symbian Operating System.

Usage

It can be found on the Nokia 9200, 9300 and 9500 Communicator series mobile telephone/personal digital assistant (PDA) and the Sony Ericsson P800, P900, P910 series. On classic Psion PDAs such as the Series 3, 5/5mx, Series 7, and netBook/netPad, as well as the MC218, OPL is part of the standard application suite. OPL is also included in Psion Teklogix industrial handhelds such as the Workabout mx. OPL is an interpreted language similar to BASIC. A fully Visual Basic-compatible language OVAL has been also developed.

History

The language was originally called Organiser Programming Language, developed by Psion Ltd for the Psion Organiser. The first implementation (without graphics) was for the original Psion Organiser (now referred to as the Psion Organiser I, 1984), and it came bundled with the Science, Finance and Math data packs. It became truly accessible as built-in software in the Psion Organiser II (1986), and the language went on to be used in the Psion Series 3 and later. After Psion retired from the portable digital assistant market, the project was delayed until 2003, when the fledgling Symbian Developer Program released it as open source. The language is now developed on SourceForge in the opl-dev project.

Open (film)

Open is a 2011 American drama film, written and directed by Jake Yuzna. The film was produced by Narrative Films and released by Ariztical Entertainment in North America on September 27, 2011.

The story centers around two intertwined love stories starring real queer, trans, pandrogynous individuals as they explore new forms of love, sex, and gender emerging at the dawn of the new millennium.

Premiering at the Berlin Film Festival in 2010,Open became the first American film to win the Teddy Jury Prize at the Teddy Award. The film also won Best Narrative Film at the TLV Festival in Tel Aviv Israel, Best Performance at Newfest, as well as having the Jake Yuzna named a Four in Focus filmmaker at Outfest. Much of the film was inspired by the artist and musician Genesis P-Orridge, who served as creative consultant on the film and is included in a post screening dialog with Jake Yuzna at New Museum available as a DVD bonus feature on the North American release.

The Detroit based music duo Adult (band) created an original score for the film.

Open (Gotthard album)

Open is the fourth studio album released by the hard rock band Gotthard.

The album peaked at #1 on the Swiss Charts and was certified as 2x Platinum for exceeding 60,000 sales.
