Oonche Log (English language: High Society People) is an Indian Hindi film directed by Brij, released on 5 July, 1985. This film is inspired from Wuthering Lights, Dil Diya Dard Liya and the Pakistani film Dehleez (1983) starring Nadeem, Shabnam, Afzal Ahmed and Agha Taalish. The film stars Rajesh Khanna and Salma Agha as the main lead characters. The film's cinematography, costumes, music of R.D.Burman, performance of Rajesh Khanna, Danny Denzongpa and Prem Chopra was critically praised but Salma Agha's performance was criticised. Brij insisted on using the same tune and lyrics of Aaj Tu Gair Sahi of a Pakistani film Dehleez sung by Mehndi Hasan, in this film and same song was recorded with Kishore. and. Kishore Kumar's version with R.D.Burman's orchestration was appreciated.Brij insisted in an interview that he made this film disappointed with failure of Dil liya dard diya on all aspects in 1966.This version is considered much better than the 1966 film by Indian viewers.
Oonche Log (Hindi: ऊँचे लोग, lit. High Society People) was a 1965 Hindi film directed by Phani Majumdar. It was based on play Major Chandrakant by noted Tamil film director-screenwriter, K. Balachander. The main character roles of this film were played by Ashok Kumar, Raaj Kumar and Feroz Khan. Its lyrics were composed by Majrooh Sultanpuri and the music was given by Chitragupta.
The film was shot at Vauhini Studios, Chennai, was also noted as first big hit of newcomer Feroz Khan, who was noted for his sensitive performance against veterans like Raaj Kumar and Ashok Kumar. At the 13th National Film Awards it won the award for Second Best Feature Film in Hindi It was later remade by K. Balachander himself as Major Chandrakanth (1966), starring J. Jayalalitha and Muthuraman.
