Onigiri

O-nigiri (お握り or 御握り; おにぎり), also known as o-musubi (お結び; おむすび), nigirimeshi (握り飯; にぎりめし) or rice ball, is a Japanese food made from white rice formed into triangular or cylinder shapes and often wrapped in nori (seaweed). Traditionally, an onigiri is filled with pickled ume (umeboshi), salted salmon, katsuobushi, kombu, tarako, or any other salty or sour ingredient as a natural preservative. Because of the popularity of onigiri in Japan, most convenience stores stock their onigiri with various fillings and flavors. There are even specialized shops which only sell onigiri to take out. Due to its popularity in Japan, the trend of small restaurants selling onigiri has traveled to the American West coast, specifically California.

Overview

Despite common misconceptions, onigiri is not a form of sushi. Onigiri is made with plain rice (sometimes lightly salted), while sushi is made of rice with vinegar, sugar and salt. Onigiri makes rice portable and easy to eat as well as preserving it, while sushi originated as a way of preserving fish.

Major teams

Kogarasumaru

Kogarasumaru (小烏丸) is a team formed by Minami Itsuki and his friends to further their favorite hobby of Air Treck skating. Their team ranking in the world of AT increases at a very rapid pace, giving Kogarasumaru worldwide fame. Their motto was Kill em' dead! Eventually, the leader Ikki is betrayed by his mentor Takeuchi Sora and Sora then forms Genesis. Kogarasumaru is now determined to win the Gram Scale Tournament and dominate all other teams with their strength alone. The team currently has 3 riders that are kings: Itsuki Minami, Kazuma Mikura, and Agito Wanijima. Of these three, only Agito currently possesses his Regalia, Aeon Clock having stolen the Flame Regalia from Kazuma and Itsuki being the Storm King of the newly formed Hurricane Road, though they now also possess the Rumble Regalia. Kogarasumaru was unqualified for the Gram Scale tournament because Ikki failed to submit the registration forms on time. However, they had a chance to qualify by going against Inorganic Net, led by the former Fang King, Falko. Inorganic Net is actually a computer program developed by Falko that has exact copies of the former Sleeping Forest members before they had disbanded, and each one possesses one of the original 8 regalia. During this battle, Kogarasumaru manages to outwit the former Sleeping Forest, and the victory is granted to Kogarasumaru by Emily's efforts. After this victory, Kogarasumaru wins their first Gram Scale bout against Highway Circus. While celebrating their victory, Benkei (of the AT syndicate Trident) arrives on a motorcycle, missing her right leg and carrying the Rumble Regalia. Kogarasumaru then battles against Sleipnir, a team made up of Wing Road riders.

Onigiri (video game)

Onigiri is an action massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by CyberStep. It is set in a fantasy land reminiscent of ancient Japan in which humans and non-humans such as Oni and other Youkai coexist. The game was originally released in Japan on February 6, 2014 and in North America on July 1, 2014. The English console versions were released on October 2, 2015 for the Xbox One and on October 6, 2015. for the PlayStation 4. The game's title means "oni cutter", reflective of the player characters' background as an Oni; the title can also be taken as a pun on onigiri, the Japanese rice ball.

"Plot"

The game is set in a fantasy version of ancient Japan that is filled with creatures of myth. Ages ago the terrible Kamigui wreaked trail of death and destruction across the land before being stopped by the goddess of the Sun, Amaterasu Oomikami. The goddess places three great Seals that forced the Kamigui to retreat. Now one of the Seals has shattered.

The player character is an Oni whose peaceful life in the Western island of Onigashima is disturbed by the revival of the Kamigui.
