Ongiara is an album by Canadian folk rock band Great Lake Swimmers, released on March 27, 2007. The album was released on Nettwerk.
The band recorded most of the album in London, Ontario's historic music venue Aeolian Hall with producer Andy Magoffin.
The title Ongiara was the name of the boat that ferried the band to Toronto Island, where they recorded the initial demo. "Ongiara" is also the original name for Niagara Falls; the name is said to have originated from the Iroquois word Onguiaahra and the local tribe of Iroquois inhabitants known as the Ongiaras.
Guest musicians appearing on the album include Serena Ryder, Sarah Harmer, Owen Pallett and Bob Egan.
Ongiara was available for purchase on iTunes during March 2007, before its scheduled release on March 27. The song "Your Rocky Spine" reached #1 on CBC Radio 3's The R3-30 charts the week of June 14, 2007.
The song "Changing Colors" has been covered by American pop singer Josh Groban. Groban used the song as the opening song on his 2011 "Straight To You Tour."

The Ongiara was a steamboat that served most of her 33 year lifetime as a ferry on the Niagara River. She was built in Toronto, and commissioned in 1885 as the Queen City. In 1888 she was sold to the Niagara Transportation Company, which renamed her the Ongiara and started using her as a ferry passengers across the Niagara River, between Queenston, Ontario and Lewiston, New York. In 1912 she was sold and employed as a tow-boat in Toronto. Finally she was sunk off Bowmanville, Ontario in 1918.
Backstage with the modern dancers
She was stretching her arm, figuring the body
When they were breathing they were shouting
She was concentrating on her breathing
And didn't seem to mind as I sat there on the couch, tuned my guitar
And played a few chords by closing
Storing my thoughts, getting ready to perform
With bare feet and painted faces, they took their places
And shivering legs beneath covered four gowns
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, ooh
No, no, no, ooh, no, no, no, ooh, no, no, no, ooh
And now they're are on wooden floors, sweat from their pores
They're riding the mist, songs I can sing by myself
Backstage with the modern dancers, the feeling I like I do
I can feel them and I can feel it, feel it, feel it
Backstage with the modern dancers
Getting ready to go on
She showed me her spin, they beautied from within
And all of these things are I think they should be at least
