One Wish may refer to:
"One Wish" is a 1994 Christmas song by American R&B singer Freddie Jackson, from his album Freddie Jackson at Christmas.
American R&B singer Whitney Houston covered the song for her 2003 album, One Wish: The Holiday Album. Her cover, titled "One Wish (for Christmas)", was the only single released from the album and reached number 20 on the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. No music video was released for the song and it did not chart on any other Billboard charts.
One Wish is the second album by Canadian singer-songwriter Deborah Cox. It was released in the United States on September 15, 1998 by Arista Records.
One Wish was far more successful than its predecessor, achieving two Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 singles, two US R&B #1 singles, and being certified Platinum.
The album was once again executive-produced by Clive Davis, but featured more uptempo, contemporary r&b, and a slew of new producers and personnel, including Montell Jordan, Anthony "Shep" Crawford, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, DJ Quik, Stevie J and David Foster. It also contained dance/club music. Diane Warren, Daryl Simmons and Lascelles Stephens also returned with contributions to the album.
The success of the album was in part due to the crossover success of the lead single "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here". The song is Cox's most successful entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #2, and remaining there for eight consecutive weeks, making it one of the longest stays at number two in chart history. The song also reached #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, spending a then record-breaking 14 weeks at number one. "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" also reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, making it her third number one song on the dance charts. The song has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America
Eighth grade is the term used for the year of education in the world. Students are usually 13 – 14 years old at the time they enter eighth grade. The eighth grade is typically the last year for Middle school, and the ninth year of public and private education, following kindergarten and subsequent grades. Similar terms, for example Grade 8, are used in other countries (see below).
Eighth grade is usually the third of three grades or the second of two grades of middle school, or the second of three grades or first of two grades in junior high school, although some systems mark it as the final year of elementary school and some as the second year of high school (in Quebec or parts of Australia for example). In countries like India and Pakistan, Grade 8 is commonly known as Class 8.
Grade 8 is the self-titled debut album by American nu metal/rap metal music group Grade 8. It was released on February 11, 2003 via Lava Records. The album failed to gain commercial success and resulted in Grade 8 being dropped from Lava.
Grade 8 features a pummeling rap metal style with thunderous, staccato riffing in B tuning and harshly delivered rapping. Songs contain chugging double bass as well as moody, atmospheric sections. Comparable to Machine Head's Burning Red, the album's style is largely characteristic of nu metal which had faded from mainstream popularity by 2003. Frontman Dustin Tooker explained, "It’s just an honest expression of how we feel. We wrote a record we’re huge fans of, just being music fans."
Lyrically, Grade 8 contains aggressive prose of confrontation and perseverance. This is reflected in the liner notes photography which portrays various elements of a boxing ring in a dark and gritty fashion.
A cover of Rare Earth's 1971 hit "I Just Want to Celebrate" was also featured on Grade 8 as interpreted in their heavy, metallic fashion. It includes an additional rapped verse, similar to 3rd Strike's rendition of "Paranoid" released almost a year prior.
Grade 8 was a four-piece nu metal band originating from Los Angeles, California.
Grade 8 formed in 1996 in the Los Angeles area. They signed with Lava Records in 2002, and released their self-titled debut album grade 8 on February 11, 2003. The band also appeared at Ozzfest that same year
On August 10, 2004, the band released their second album Resurrection via "Sound Barrier Records". Shortly after, they parted ways with Hagblom and Zilch, and replaced Hagblom with drummer Josh Garcia.
On August 4, 2008, the band posted a blog on their MySpace page signaling the end of Grade 8, stating "I think we are just ready to do other things, and we wanted to leave Grade 8 the way it was, not change the sound.". The blog goes on to state that they had started a new project called "The Kill Generation", although nothing has been heard of the project since the blog was posted.
So here we are all alone now,
Hold me close, tell me lies
This isn't home and this isn't right
Not gonna stand here and wait for something I can't...
Please, please just set me free
I feel the heat so why am I cold,
Just can't seem to let you go
Cause' you still want a piece and I need it all,
Lights were on when there was no one home
When you'd invite me in and then you'd shut the door
Before I clutched my palm I could feel you stare,
Nothing between us but family.
So please listen close, my story goes on
Friends are leaving as we're growing old,
Count miles back and I'm out the door,
So I'd better tell myself I'm never coming home.
Everybody says "play by the rules"
Shut your mouth and just play it cool,
Go on and pay your dues, forget that!
That's what came before.
Stop! Stop! Wait! Wait!
I think we have contact, one second I can't wait
And give me just one chance, chance! Chance! Chance!
I think we have contact, one second I can't wait
And give me just one...
Stop! Stop! Wait! Wait!
I think we have contact, one second I can't wait
And give me just one chance, chance! Chance! Chance!
I think we have contact...
So here we are all alone now,
Hold me close, tell me lies
This isn't home and this isn't right
Not gonna stand here and wait for something I can't...
Breath, breath and feel diseased
Well you all can see it's not time to leave,
How's it feel to be complete?
Don't stop me now cause' I can almost reach,
Pull myself out of another hole,
Take it to them but don't talk to me
Cause' you can't relate
No need to rush, I'm already late,
And in this case my world is erased out and pulled my face down
Straight from the grave and I see tonight,
Straight from out my lies, roll your eyes,
Cool me down, I need to find.
Take my hand in spite of me
Cause' I'm on my knees and I'm begging please
Need a taste of what I crave
What I crave is fate!
