Om Prakash Chautala

Om Prakash Chautala (born 1 January 1935) is an Indian politician from the state of Haryana and the leader of the Indian National Lok Dal political party. He is a former Chief Minister of Haryana. He is sentenced to ten years imprisonment along with his son Ajay Singh Chautala and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Biography

Chautala is the son of Chaudhari Devi Lal, a former Deputy Prime Minister of India. He has two sons Ajay & Abhay and a daughter Sunita. His son Abhay is MLA from Ellenabad and his grandson Dushyant Chautala is MP, Lok Sabha from Hisar. He was the Chief Minister of Haryana from 2 December 1989 to 2 May 1990, from 12 July 1990 to 17 July 1990, again from 22 March 1991 to 6 April 1991 and finally from 24 July 1999 to 4 March 2004. Politically, he had been part of NDA and United National Progressive Alliance at national level. At present the Indian National Lok Dal is the main opposition party and his son Abhay Singh Chautala is the leader of opposition.

Om Prakash

Om Prakash (19 December 1919 – 21 February 1998) was an Indian character actor. He was born in Lahore, now Pakistan as Om Prakash Chibber. He used to play the role of Kamla in the stage play by the famous Dewan Mandir Natak Samaj Koliwada. Starting his career in 1942, he was a popular supporting actor from the 1950s until the 1980s.

Om Prakash played the leading man in films like Dus Lakh, Annadata and Charandas 'Sadhu aur Shaitan'. His pivotal roles in the films Dil Daulat Duniya, Chupke Chupke, Julie, Joroo Ka Ghulam, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Pyar Kiye Jaa and Buddha Mil Gaya are considered to be among his best along with Daddu in Namak Halaal and De Silva in Zanjeer. His roles in 'Sharabi', 'Bharosa', 'Tere Ghar Ke Samne', 'Mere Humdum Mere Dost', 'Loafar', 'Dil Tera Diwana' were also appreciated.

He is known for his roles in comedy films. One of his best performances in his later years were Naukar Biwi Ka, Sharaabi (1984) and Chameli Ki Shaadi, where he played a role that was pivotal for the movie.

Om Prakash (historian)

Om Prakash (born January 1940, in Delhi) is an Indian economic historian. He is noted for his work on the Dutch East India company in Bengal, and also for his work on coinage, precious metal trade, and other aspects of pre-colonial commerce between Europe and India. In 2005, he was knighted by the Dutch queen.

Career

He did his M.A. from the Delhi School of Economics in 1961, ranking first, and continued with his PhD in Economic History. His thesis, The Dutch East India Company and the Economy of Bengal, 1650-1717, is based on archival material from the Nationaal Archief at the Hague. It was published as a book by the Princeton University Press in 1985.

Subsequently, Prakash joined the Delhi School of Economics faculty from 1965 and 2005. His work is highly regarded in the Netherlands, where he is a Foreign Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, Haarlem (since 2000). In April 2005, he was honoured as a "Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion" by Queen Beatrix.

Om Prakash Gurjar

Om Prakash Gurjar (born 3 July 1992) is a former child labourer from Rajasthan who won the International Children's Peace Prize for 2006.

At the age of five, he was taken away from his parents and for three years he worked in the fields. After he was rescued by activists of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Om nofor free education in his native Rajasthan. He then helped to set up a network of what are known as "child friendly villages", places where children's rights are respected and child labour is not allowed. He also set up a network that aims to give all children a birth certificate as a way of helping to protect them from exploitation. He also worked to ensure children are given birth certificates. He says such registration is the first step towards enshrining children's rights, proving their age, and helping to protect them from slavery, trafficking, forced marriage or serving as a child soldiers.

He was awarded the International Children's Peace Prize by former South African President FW de Klerk, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
