Oliver Lines

Oliver Lines (born 16 June 1995) is an English professional snooker player. He practises at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds. He is the son of fellow professional snooker player Peter Lines.

Career

Amateur

Lines switched sports from football to snooker at aged 14. His progression continued by entering into the Players Tour Championship events in 2011, but made little impact in the 2011/2012 season.2012/2013 saw major improvement and a notable 4–3 over Joe Perry in 2012 UKPTC 3, he also entered Q School for the first time in May 2013 in the hope of qualifying on the main but failed to do after securing four wins in the three events. Despite not qualifying for the main tour, Lines' performances in Q School were enough to earn him a top up place in the qualifying round of the 2013 Australian Goldfields Open, his first senior ranking event, he won in the opening round beating fellow Leeds-based player David Grace 5–4, but suffered a 5–4 reverse in the second round last 96 stage to Zhang Anda of China. For the rest of the season, Lines continued enter into PTC and amateur events, with his most notable result being a 4–2 over professional Scott Donaldson in the 2013 Ruhr Open.

Oliver (Middlesex cricketer)

Oliver (first name and dates unknown) was an English first-class cricketer who made one appearance for Middlesex in 1787, scoring one run. Oliver played for Middlesex against Essex on 31 May 1787 at Lord's Old Ground, Middlesex winning by 93 runs in the second match known to have been played on the ground after it opened earlier in May.

Lines (album)

Lines is the fifth studio album by the American pop group The Walker Brothers. The album was released in 1976 and was the second since reforming in 1975. The album failed to chart and includes the singles "Lines" and "We're All Alone", neither of which met with much success.

The album was stylistically similar to their 1975 comeback No Regrets, matching the general musical styles of Country and Pop music and marrying them to romantic orchestral arrangements. Aside from "First Day" which is actually the work of John Maus, writing under the pseudonym A. Dayam, the album is compiled of non-original compositions. Scott Walker however would not contribute new songs until the group's following album Nite Flights in 1978.

Lines (Emily Brontë poem)

"Lines" is a poem written by English writer Emily Brontë in December 1837. It is understood that the poem was written in the Haworth parsonage, two years after Brontë had left Roe Head, where she was unable to settle as a pupil. At that time, she had already lived through the death of her mother and two of her sisters. As the daughter of a parson, Bronte received a rigorously religious education, which is evident in much of her work. "Lines" is representative of much of her poetry, which broke Victorian gender stereotypes by adopting the Gothic tradition and genre of Romanticism, allowing her to express and examine her emotions.

Throughout their lives, the Brontë children struggled with leaving their own home in Haworth to which they felt so closely attached. The gender prejudice of the nineteenth century left little choice for young women like Brontë who were seeking employment, occupation or education. It was widely accepted that females would hold self-effacing roles as housewives, mothers, governesses or seamstresses. Any poetry written by females was expected to address issues of religion, motherhood and wifehood on an instructive and educative level.

405-line television system

The 405-line monochrome analogue television broadcasting system was the first fully electronic television system to be used in regular broadcasting.

It was introduced with the BBC Television Service in 1936, suspended for the duration of World War II, and remained in operation in the UK until 1985. It was also used between 1961 and 1982 in Ireland, as well as from 1957 to 1973 for the Rediffusion Television cable service in Hong Kong.

Sometimes called the Marconi-EMI system, it was developed in 1934 by the EMI Research Team led by Sir Isaac Shoenberg. The figure of 405 lines had been chosen following discussions over Sunday lunch at the home of Alan Blumlein. The system used interlacing; EMI had been experimenting with a 243 line all-electronic interlaced system since 1933. In the 405 system the scanning lines were broadcast in two complementary fields, 50 times per second, creating 25 frames per second. The actual image was 377 lines high and interlaced, with additional unused lines making the frame up to 405 lines to give the slow circuitry time to prepare for the next frame; in modern terms it would be described as 377i.
