Old Mission Point is an unincorporated community within Peninsula Township, Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan.
In the 1836 Treaty of Washington, the U.S. federal government agreed to provide local native tribes with both a mission and schools for their reservation. Henry Schoolcraft, the Indian agent representing the government, selected a natural harbor on the eastern shore of the peninsula in Grand Traverse Bay for the planned facilities. In 1838 the Presbyterian Board of Missions, sent the Reverend Peter Dougherty (1805–1894) to establish the mission, now known as Old Mission, for which the peninsula would eventually become known.
The peninsula has extensive cherry orchards and vineyards. There are seven vineyards, but only five have tasting rooms. Because of the remoteness of the peninsula, wine tours take some planning. It is an American Viticultural Area and a center of the Michigan wine industry. See Old Mission Peninsula AVA.
The Old Mission Point Lighthouse is located at the northern terminus of M-37, at the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula, which juts 18 miles into Grand Traverse Bay. It is located at 44°59′7″N 85°28′24″W / 44.98528°N 85.47333°W / 44.98528; -85.47333, just south of the 45th parallel north, midway between the North Pole and the Equator.
The Old Mission Peninsula AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in Grand Traverse County, Michigan known for well-regarded Michigan wine. The Old Mission Peninsula extends northward from Traverse City into the Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan, ending at Old Mission Point. The peninsula is 19 miles (31 km) long by 3 miles (5 km) wide at its widest point. The climate on the peninsula is moderated by the surrounding waters, helping to prevent frost during the growing season. Grape varietals suitable to cool climates, such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Pinot gris, Pinot noir, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot do best in the Old Mission Peninsula AVA.
The peninsula has extensive cherry orchards and vineyards. There are nine wineries with a tenth currently being built, offering tasting rooms, each located within five miles of each other. Of Traverse City’s two wine-growing peninsulas, Old Mission is smaller and more easily encompassed in a single day: just a little under 20 miles from end to end, and in places as little as three miles wide..
Michigan i/ˈmɪʃᵻɡən/ is a state located in the Great Lakes and midwestern regions of the United States. The name Michigan is the French form of the Ojibwa word mishigamaa, meaning "large water" or "large lake". Michigan is the tenth most populous of the 50 United States, with the 11th most extensive total area (the largest state by total area east of the Mississippi River). Its capital is Lansing, and the largest city is Detroit.
Michigan is the only state to consist of two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, to which the name Michigan was originally applied, is often noted to be shaped like a mitten. The Upper Peninsula (often referred to as "the U.P.") is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac, a five-mile (8 km) channel that joins Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The two peninsulas are connected by the Mackinac Bridge. The state has the longest freshwater coastline of any political subdivision in the world, being bounded by four of the five Great Lakes, plus Lake Saint Clair. As a result, it is one of the leading U.S. states for recreational boating. Michigan also has 64,980 inland lakes and ponds. A person in the state is never more than six miles (9.7 km) from a natural water source or more than 85 miles (137 km) from a Great Lakes shoreline.
Michigan: Report from Hell, released as Michigan in Japan, is a survival horror game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Spike. It was released in Japan on August 5, 2004, in Europe on September 30, 2005, and in Australia in 2005. This game was never released in North America. Directed by Akira Ueda and planned by Goichi Suda, the game focuses on a news crew for the fictional ZaKa TV, dedicated to covering strange phenomena. The game is unique in the sense that it is played almost entirely though the viewfinder of a camera; and the game is lost if the player runs out of film before solving the mysteries in a mission.
In Michigan, players take the role of a rookie cameraman for ZaKa TV, the entertainment division of the powerful ZaKa conglomerate. Accompanied by Brisco, an outspoken sound engineer, and Pamela, a reporter, the player is sent to investigate a mysterious mist that has descended over the city. The player quickly discovers that the mist is somehow transforming people into fleshy, leech-like monsters with human limbs. Pamela is attacked by the creatures, and is later found in the process of transforming into one. The player, Brisco, and a new female reporter are sent to investigate the source of the monster outbreak.
Michigan is a U.S. state.

From the banks of that old mission under a vein of sycamore
I lay like a switchblade reflecting the moon
Scraping the spine blood from a trout with the back of my thumb
Start a fire on the beach and just lay listening to it burn
Time is the river polishing the stone
Curiosity is faith with no backbone
An owl cuts your silhouette from the bark of an elm
And laces your boots with the twine from a scare crows belt
Pitch fork dreams and typewriter prayers
The wind catches and turns the spades of your windmill heart
Every time I thought I was lost
Just packed my bags and my chains fell off
I went into the woods like a cold hand goes into a glove
A salt box shack outlined by chimney smoke with parts of old cars laying out in the yard
Everyday the sun rakes through the window across my table across my floor
There’s a family of starlings living in the soffit over my front door
Sometimes I hide behind the man you think I’ am
But it’s only because I don’t want to come across anything like them
Ambition has destroyed my morals but time has given me grace
A kestrel Slaughterhouse birds sing behind all the cracks in my porcelain face
Wish I had a million bucks so I could at least say I threw it all away
Now my life is pitch black and I’m just counting down the days
Ask me if it burns ill show you the flame
Ask me if it bleeds ill show you the vein
My story hangs from the clothesline leaking dead sunlight all over my past
Youth has become the fabric the moth of old age destroys
There is no romance in a lonely heart and a frozen soul
But a dog does what he does because he’s a dog
I used to be skin and now I’m a soar
