Ode to J. Smith is the sixth studio album by Scottish rock band Travis, released on 29 September 2008 in the United Kingdom and received generally positive reviews. The album was released in the United States on 4 November 2008. The first single from the album, "Something Anything", was released on 15 September, and despite being generally well received by Travis fans gained very little airplay.
Ode to J. Smith entered the UK Album Chart at #20, and spent 3 weeks on the chart. The album peaked at #122 on the Billboard 200.
J. Smith may refer to:
J. Smith (first name and dates unknown) was an English cricketer with amateur status. He was associated with Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and made his first-class debut in 1833.
"J. Smith" is the first single from Indie band Travis' sixth studio album Ode to J. Smith, released as a limited-edition E.P. on both 10" vinyl and as a download, with only 1,000 copies made of the 10-inch. The song reached #1 on the UK Indie Chart on 6 July 2008, mainly due to strong downloads.
Although the songs from Ode to J. Smith were previewed in a series of live shows in February 2008, the studio recordings were not intended to be heard until the official release. However, KCRW, an American radio station, got hold of an illegal copy of J. Smith, and played it on air several times, and subsequently, mp3 files of the song were made and distributed, which Fran Healy contested to on the official forum. The physical single release was not intended for announcement until late June, however, online retailer Recordstore announced the item for sale on 5 June, meaning that despite an official announcement being made, fans would now know what the first single was going to be. The information was discussed on the band's official forum within hours. Healy posted on the forum that evening, claiming that the band had not intended Recordstore to announce the information, and that the original plan was to gradually release the information to increase excitement.
Traveled all around the world to be with you
You never know where the open road will lead you to
I crawl before I walk, still got nowhere fast
The other side still has the greener grass
Oh, you win some and you loose some yeah
Oh, and things look so much smarter from up there
I hear it's such a long way down
And the climb back up ain't as easy as it sounds
I hear it's such a long way down
And the climb back up is just something I can do without
Something I can do without
I walked until I didn't have no energy
I bought until I didn't have no bite left in me
I died so that I didn't have to live in the past
But the other side still had the greener grass
Oh, you win some and you loose some yeah
Oh, and things look so much smarter from up there
I hear it's such a long way down
And the climb back up ain't as easy as it sounds
I hear it's such a long way down
And the climb back up is just something I can do without
Something I can do without
Put your hands up yeah, Put your hands up yeah
Put your hands up yeah, Something I can do without
I hear it's such a long way down
And the climb back up ain't as easy as it sounds
I hear it's such a long way down
And the climb back up is just something I can do without
Just something I can do without, oh yeah
Something I can do without, Something I can do without
Something I can do without, Something I can do without
Something I can do without, Something I can do without
Something I can do without, out, out, out, that's it
