Oceano, California

Oceano (/oʊʃiˈɑːnoʊ/ or /oʊsiˈɑːnoʊ/; Spanish: [oˈseano]) is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 7,286 at the 2010 census, up from 7,260 at the 2000 census. "Océano" (with accent) is the Spanish word for "ocean", but the toponymic name is written without it.

Geography

Oceano is located at 35°6′10″N 120°36′41″W / 35.10278°N 120.61139°W / 35.10278; -120.61139 (35.102680, -120.611471).

Oceano is part of the 5 Cities Metropolitan Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²), of which, 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.052 km²) of it (0.98%) is water.

Oceano's beach is the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, a 1,500 acres (6.1 km²) coastal sand dune. As the only state park in California where visitors may drive vehicles on the beach, tourists are attracted from all over the United States. Activities on this beach include riding the sand dunes on all-terrain-vehicles, swimming, clamming, camping, surfing, surf fishing, hiking, and bird watching.

Oceano da Cruz

Oceano Andrade da Cruz (born 29 July 1962), known simply as Oceano, is a Portuguese retired footballer, and the current assistant manager of the Iranian national team.

A defensive midfielder with tremendous physical strength and leadership skills as his main assets, he is widely regarded as the best footballer ever hailing from his birth nation, and represented most notably Sporting, appearing in more than 400 official games with the club over the course of 11 seasons (two separate spells).

Having gained more than 50 caps for Portugal, Oceano represented his adopted nation at Euro 1996.

Club career

Born in São Vicente, Cape Verde, Oceano's family emigrated to Portugal when he was a child. He started his career at Almada A.C. in the lower leagues and, after spells in the second division with Odivelas F.C. and C.D. Nacional, signed with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the 1984–85 season.

Oceano was an undisputed starter for the Lisbon side during his stay, which consisted at first of seven seasons. In 1991 he moved, alongside compatriot and teammate Carlos Xavier, to Spain's Real Sociedad, where the pair was equally influential, having been reunited with former Sporting boss John Toshack.

Oceano (band)

Oceano is an American deathcore band from Cook County, Illinois. Formed in 2006, the band signed to Earache Records and released their debut album, Depths on April 7, 2009. Their second album, Contagion was released on November 9, 2010. Their fourth album Ascendants was released March 23rd, 2015.

History

Upon its formation in 2006, Oceano was originally a grindcore band formed by heavy set guitarist Jeremy Carroll that featured six members. Carrol gathered Chicago guitarist Andrew Mikhail, vocalist Adam Warren, drummer Michael Southcomb and bassist Kevin Hare to form Oceano's first full line-up in 2007. This Oceano performed at local venues in the Cook County area.

Oceano recorded their full debut album Depths in late 2008, releasing it worldwide on April 20, 2009.

Jeremy Carrol was fired from the band in January 2009 due to personality conflicts between members. Carrol's leaving left only one member from the original Oceano lineup in the band, Adam Warren. On February 3, 2010 the band's lead guitarist, Andrew Mikhail also departed from the band.
