Osl (genus)

Osl (Osli, Osth or Ozsol) was the name of a gens (Latin for "clan"; nemzetség in Hungarian) with Pecheneg or Hungarian origin in the Kingdom of Hungary, based in today's Győr-Moson-Sopron County. The village of Osli was named after that clan.

History

The Gesta Hunnorum et Hungarorum ("Deeds of the Huns and Hungarians") records that the clan was from one of the 108 original genera during the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin. According to the legends, the forefather of the genus was Súr, a commander in the Battle of Lechfeld and a possible descendant of the Árpád dynasty. The ancestor of the clan was Osli I who lived around between 1200 and 1230. Presumably, he had seven children, including Beled, who served as Master of the cupbearers, whose eldest son, Beled was the ancestor of the Count Viczay family which became extinct in 1873.

Osli's second son was Osli de Asszonyfalva, Ban of Szörény, whose third son, Osli Ostffy became ancestor of the Ostffy de Asszonyfalva family. The third son was Benedek, Bishop of Várad (today: Oradea, Romania). He survived the Mongol invasion of Europe and later was appointed Bishop of Győr. The fourth son, Tamás de Csorna was the first member of the House of Kanizsai. His grandson Gergely acquired significant lands in Győr County. He was received Rábaszentmiklós by Ladislaus IV in 1287. However, he had no male successors, thus the property were inherited by Lőrinc, Ispán of Zala County, his brother's sons. The last surviving member of that family was Orsolya Kanizsai (d. 1571), wife of Palatine Tamás Nádasdy.

Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145

Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 was a scheduled flight between the Nigerian cities of Abuja (ABV) and Port Harcourt (PHC). At about 14:08 local time (13:08 UTC) on 10 December 2005, Flight 1145 from Abuja crash-landed at Port Harcourt International Airport. The plane, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32 with 110 people on board, burst into flames. Immediately after the crash, seven survivors were recovered and taken to hospitals, but it has since been reported that four of those survivors have died in hospital care, leaving three survivors, two of whom were flown to South Africa. In the end, two people survived.

The flight

The captain was Benjamin Adekunle Adebayo, a Nigerian. The first officer was Gerad Yakubu Andan, a Ghanaian.

The crashed DC-9 was owned by JAT Airways, and operated by Sosoliso Airlines Ltd. This is the first accident for the airline.

The accident occurred during approach to Port Harcourt in adverse weather - windshear, rain and lightning. Unable to make out the unlit runway through the rain, the captain called for a go around (missed approach) at an altitude of about 200 ft (approximately 120 ft above the ground). This call was made about 100 ft below the "decision altitude". The missed approach procedure was carried out incorrectly, and the aircraft struck the ground approximately 70 meters left of the runway. It collided heavily with a concrete drainage culvert, disintegrated and caught fire.
