Nuri Şahin (Turkish pronunciation: [nuˈɾi ˈʃahin], born 5 September 1988) is a Turkish footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Turkey national football team.
He began his career at Borussia Dortmund, spending six years there and winning the Bundesliga in 2011 – including a year-long loan at Feyenoord – before signing for Real Madrid in 2011 for €10 million. In August 2012, Şahin agreed to a one-year loan deal with Liverpool, which was terminated in January 2013 to allow him to return to Dortmund on an 18-month loan.
Şahin represents Turkey at international level and has done since under-16 level. He made his senior international debut in 2005 and has since earned over 45 caps.
Şahin began his football career at the age of six for RSV Meinerzhagen. After spending seven seasons at the club, he was signed by professional club Borussia Dortmund in 2001.
On 6 August 2005, at the age of 16 years and 334 days, Şahin set a record by becoming the youngest player to have played in the Bundesliga, and on 25 November of the same year became the youngest player to score a goal in the Bundesliga, scoring for Borussia Dortmund against 1. FC Nuremberg.
Nuri Şahin (born January 1, 1980 in Tokat, Turkey) is a Turkish volleyball player. He is 1.97 m (6 ft 6 in) tall at 91 kg (201 lb), and plays as libero. He capped 155 times for the Turkey men's national volleyball team. As of 2012-13 season, Şahin plays for Halkbank Ankara and wears number 5. He studied at Marmara University.
Born on January 1, 1980 in Tokat, Şahin began playing volleyball already in the primary school. In 1994, he became professional at Eczacıbaşı. He was then member of Galatasaray, Emlakbank, Arçelik, Fenerbahçe and lately of Arkas Spor Izmir before he transferred in July 2012 to Halkbank Ankara.
Nuri Şahin is married since 2006 and has a son, Alp Toğan Şahin, born in 2011.
He was member of the Turkey men's national volleyball team, which became champion at the 2005 Summer Universiade held in İzmir, Turkey. He won the Men's CEV Cup 2012–13 with Halkbank Ankara and was named "Best Receiver" of the tournament.
