I Do Perceive is the third album by the Chicago artist Mike Kinsella under the name Owen. It was released on November 9, 2004 on Polyvinyl Records.
Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount is the debut studio album by American post hardcore band From First to Last. It was released on June 29, 2004 through Epitaph Records. The title was taken from a monologue in the film Heathers, in which Winona Ryder's character is writing in her diary. Production was handled by Lee Dyess and the band themselves. The album was remastered by Beau Burchell from Saosin, however, it is not indicated on the personnel, possibly due to a contemporary feud between the band. The album received generally mixed reviews from music critics. It reached number 12 and 21 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums and Independent Albums chart. It spawned two singles: "Ride the Wings of Pestilence" and "Note to Self". The hidden track (commonly referred to as "Dead Baby Kick Ball") features contributing vocals from American rapper Major League Player. "Populace in Two" was included in the soundtrack for the video game Burnout 3: Takedown.
Voices in Your Head is a student-run, co-ed a cappella group from the University of Chicago. Founded in 1998, the group consists of both undergraduate and graduate students whose studies range from Economics to Music to MD/PhD programs. Voices arranges all of its own music, spanning several genres. Its unique repertoire includes original pieces, as well as an eclectic mix of pop, R&B, rock, and alternative music. Voices competes annually in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), and travels nationally for a cappella festivals and tours.
Voices in Your Head was formed in the fall of 1998. Amanda founded the group because she realized there were no 'funky' performance organizations at the University of Chicago. They released their first live album, Sesquipedalia, in 2000, their first studio album, On Point, in 2002, and their second studio album, ‘’Songs for Padded Rooms,’’ in 2005.
‘'Note To Self'," released on May 23, 2008, received a strong Recorded A Cappella Review Board review and contained a track (“Magic”) selected for the 2008 edition of the international a cappella compilation, Voices Only. Noted author Nick Hornby also included "Magic" from Note To Self in his 2008 playlist for the New York Times.
can you watch your fear grow?
an inextinguishable belief upon past life.
or will you become so attached to the one perceive
that will cause you to grow
- but will not love you back.
so you bury yourself.
so obsessed, so depressed with success,
and never have the time you’ll need to take whats left.
to compare ourselves - is there no shame?
no shame in infliction of mass pain and guilt.
guilt is the sign to justificate and condemnate.
the violence anger and fear:
is this the ideal or just the actual?
addicted to fear of growing old.
addicted to the present moment as my passions explode.
addicted to another’s mind-body-control.
you’ve got a mind? i’ve got a mind of my own
so i’ll explore all the reasons why this world-
it moves-it only moves in reverse-
surroundings that manipulate our lives.
so i’ll keep one eye on the self,
and the other on what drives.
