Noida City Centre metro station

The Noida City Centre (also called Wave City Center) is a terminal station on the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro. The other terminal station on the Blue Line is Dwarka Sector 21 metro station.

Problem Reported

During a routine check in September 2013, DMRC found that the station was sinking with major cracks appearing in it. However, the officials were not able to acsertain the reason or cause for the sagging. Further inspection of other nearby Stations were made and no problems were found there.

Consequences

Though no trains were cancelled by DMRC, the travel time from the Noida Golf Course metro station to this station increased. The trains were only allowed to run in a very slow pace near this station, as repair work was going on in the station and on pillars 174 and 185. The services of the station had to be shut down for few days

Reaction

DMRC constituted a committee to look into the cause of the problem. an engineer was dismissed following the report submitted by the committee.

City centre

A city centre (or city center) is the commercial, cultural and often the historical, political and geographic heart of a city.

Overview and related concepts

The city centre is the (often historical) area of a city where commerce, entertainment, shopping and political power are concentrated. The term is commonly used in many English-speaking countries and has direct equivalents in many other languages. However, notably, in the United States, the term "downtown" is commonly used to denote a city centre, and in Canada the terms "city centre" and "downtown" are used interchangeably. In Australia, the term "Central Business District" is widely used to refer to the city centre, but usage of the term "City Centre" is increasing, especially in Melbourne.

In many cities, the Central Business District (CBD) is within the city centre, but the concept "city centre" differs from the CBD. The concept of the "CBD" revolves solely around economic and financial power, but the "city centre" also includes historical, political and cultural factors. A clear example is Paris: La Défense is the central business district of Paris, but it is not the city centre. In most larger and/or older cities, the CBD and the city centre will only partially overlap, if at all.

Glasgow city centre

Glasgow city centre is the central business district of Glasgow, Scotland. Is bounded by the High Street to the east, the River Clyde to the south and the M8 motorway to the west and north which was built through the Townhead, Charing Cross, Cowcaddens and Anderston areas in the 1960s. It can roughly be divided into at least 3 different districts:

Retail and Theatre District

The city centre is based on a grid system of streets, similar to that of Barcelona or American cities, on the north bank of the River Clyde. The heart of the city is George Square, site of many of Glasgow's public statues and the elaborate Victorian Glasgow City Chambers, headquarters of Glasgow City Council. To the south and west are the shopping precincts of Argyle Street, Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, the latter featuring more upmarket retailers and winner of the Academy of Urbanism 'Great Street Award' 2008. The main shopping centres are Buchanan Galleries and the St. Enoch Centre, with the up-market Princes Square and the Italian Centre specialising in designer labels. The London-based department store Selfridges has purchased a potential development site in the city and another upmarket retail chain Harvey Nichols is also thought to be planning a store in the city, further strengthening Glasgow's retail portfolio, which forms the U.K.'s second largest and most economically important retail sector after Central London.

Manchester city centre

Manchester city centre is the central business district of Manchester, England, within the boundaries of the River Irwell, Great Ancoats Street and Whitworth Street. This is a separate ward whose population at the 2011 census was 17,861.

Manchester city centre evolved from the civilian vicus of the Roman fort of Mamucium, on a sandstone bluff near the confluence of the rivers Medlock and Irwell. This became the township of Manchester during the Middle Ages, and was the site of the Peterloo Massacre of 1819. Manchester was granted city status in 1853, after the Industrial Revolution, from which the city centre emerged as the global centre of the cotton trade which encouraged its "splendidly imposing commercial architecture" during the Victorian era, such as the Royal Exchange, the Corn Exchange, the Free Trade Hall, and the Great Northern Warehouse. After the decline of the cotton trade and the Manchester Blitz, the city centre suffered economic decline during the mid-20th century, but the CIS Tower ranked as the tallest building in the UK when completed in 1962.

Noida

Noida, short for the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, is a planned city in India under the management of the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (also called NOIDA). It is part of National Capital Region of India. Noida came into administrative existence on 17 April 1976 and celebrates 17 April as "Noida Day". It was set up as part of an urbanisation thrust during the controversial Emergency period (1975–1977). The city was created under the UP Industrial Area Development Act by the initiatives of Sanjay Gandhi. The city has the highest per capita income in the whole National Capital Region. The Noida Authority is among the richest civic bodies in the country. As per provisional reports of Census India, population of Noida in 2011 is 642,381; of which male and female are 352,577 and 289,804 respectively. Noida is famous for excellent roads and considered Country's greenest city.

Noida is located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh state. The district's administrative headquarters are in the nearby town of Greater Noida. However, the district's highest government official, the District Magistrate (DM), resides in Noida. The city is a part of the Noida Vidhan Sabha (state assembly) constituency and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Lok Sabha constituency). Minister of State for Culture, Tourism of Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma of the BJP is the current MP of Noida. The current MLA who won in the by-elections is Vimla Batham.

NOIDA Vidhan Sabha Constituency (Hindi: नोएडा विधानसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is one of the assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh state in northern India. It is located within the Gautam Buddha Nagar district.
