  • Life

Life is a characteristic distinguishing physical entities having biological processes (such as signaling and self-sustaining processes) from those that do not, either because such functions have ceased (death), or because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate. Various forms of life exist such as plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea, and bacteria. The criteria can at times be ambiguous and may or may not define viruses, viroids or potential artificial life as living. Biology is the primary science concerned with the study of life, although many other sciences are involved.

Throughout history there have been many theories about life including materialism, hylomorphism and vitalism. Even today it is a challenge for scientists and philosophers to define life. The smallest contiguous unit of life is called an organism. Organisms are composed of one or more cells, undergo metabolism, maintain homeostasis, can grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce (either sexually or asexually) and, through evolution, adapt to their environment in successive generations. A diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere of Earth, and the properties common to these organisms are a carbon- and water-based cellular form with complex organization and heritable genetic information.

    Jīva (Jainism)

The Jīva or Atman (/ˈɑːtmən/; Sanskrit: आत्मन्) is a philosophical term used within Jainism to identify the soul. It is one's true self (hence generally translated into English as 'Self') beyond identification with the phenomenal reality of worldly existence. As per the Jain cosmology, jīva or soul is also the principle of sentience and is one of the tattvas or one of the fundamental substances forming part of the universe. According to The Theosophist, "some religionists hold that Atman (Spirit) and Paramatman (God) are one, while others assert that they are distinct ; but a Jain will say that Atman and Paramatman are one as well as distinct." In Jainism, spiritual disciplines, such as abstinence, aid in freeing the jīva "from the body by diminishing and finally extinguishing the functions of the body." Jain philosophy is essentially dualistic. It differentiates two substances, the self and the non-self.

    Real Self

According to the Jain text, Samayasāra (The Nature of the Self):-

    Life (manga)

Life (Japanese: ライフ Hepburn: Raifu) is a shōjo manga series created by Keiko Suenobu, a manga creator well known for her work on Vitamin and Happy Tomorrow. Life was serialized in Bessatsu Friend, a publication of Kodansha, and deals with many controversial topics such as self-mutilation, bullying, rape, suicide, and manipulation. In 2006, it won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo.

The English language version of the manga, published by Tokyopop, was originally rated OT (Older Teen; 16+), but starting with the release of Volume 6 and carrying back over to future reprintings of the previous five, the rating was changed to M (Mature; 18+) for extremely explicit content in that volume. As of June 2008, nine volumes have been released in the United States; Volume 10 was scheduled for a September 2008 release, but on August 31, 2009, Kodansha (original Japanese publisher of the series) announced that they would drop their manga licensing contract with Tokyopop, leaving Life and other well-known series such as Rave Master unfinished, whether permanently or until picked up by other manga publishing companies (Dark Horse Manga and Del Rey Manga have already picked up certain titles). Kodansha also did not offer an explanation for their decision. The future of the English version of the manga is unknown, as Tokyopop itself shut down in May 2011 after they were faced with bankruptcy.

    Condor (comics)

Condor is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

    Publication history

The Condor first appeared in Nova #2-3 (October–November 1976), and was created by Marv Wolfman and John Buscema.

    The character subsequently appears in Nova #6-8 (February–April 1977), #10 (June 1977), Nova #2-5 (February–May 1994), #13 (January 1995), Nova #3-4 (July–August 1999), #7 (November 1999), and Amazing Spider-Man #562-563 (August 2008).

    Fictional character biography

Condor is a winged criminal scientist, and is a member of the same race of avians as Red Raven. He was a member of the Terrible Trio, along with Diamondhead and Powerhouse, and an enemy of Nova and the Champions of Xandar. During a battle with the Sphinx, he was transformed into an actual condor.

Condor spent several years in the form of an animal, until he landed on the island of Bird-Brain and the Ani-Mates. Bird-Brain recognized that the Condor was not a real animal and transformed him into a semi-humanoid. He confronted Nova again angrily, and ultimately left feeling their conflict had been useless.

    Condor (APC)

The Rheinmetall Condor is a 4×4 wheeled armoured personnel carrier originally designed by Thyssen-Henschel of Germany and manufactured by Henschel Wehrtechnik GmbH. It is based on the chassis of the UNIMOG and uses the same key components such as the engine, gearbox and axles. Serviceability is high and the vehicle is easy to maintain since support is readily available from civilian sources.

    Design

The Condor was designed to provide overall protection against small arms, shrapnel and small mines. Combat with the Malaysian Army during the rescue operations following the Battle of Mogadishu highlighted its vulnerability against RPG-7 rocket rounds. One Malaysian soldier was killed when an RPG round penetrated the driver compartment of his vehicle.

The vehicle is amphibious and is air-transportable in C-130 Hercules and in C-160 Transall type aircraft.

    Variants

The Condor is available in multiple configurations, these include:

  • Personnel and/or cargo carrier
  • Command and control

    No Life

    by: Equinox Ov The Gods

    Through dreams I wander
    Your smile engulfed my mind
I fear the dawn is drawing nigh
I fear the end of every night
    Just keep me dreaming
    Another life waits to be
    Explored in the light
    Radiating from the divine
    Passion that is present
    As the fire burning bright
    In your eyes
    In the moonlight
I see the ghost that I've come to be
    Just keep me dreaming
    Let my life be defined
By the temptations that you bring me
On my lonesome path through the night
    Summoned by the vanity
Of a hope that was not meant to be
    Embraced by someone
    Someone like me
    I see
    No life!
I fade away for a dream
That seem to be forever beyond reach
    Unnoticed by the angel
    I die each night unseen
    For a dream
I'm reaching for the sun, unseen,
In hope that the angel that dwell therein
Will notice me and take me into her dream
I realize it was all in vain
My wings are burning and I fall again
Into a maelstrom of agony and screams
No life! - Through dreams I wander
No life! - Your smile engulfed my mind
No life! - I fear the dawn is drawing nigh
No life! - I've closed the last door
No life! - Unseen I walk through life
No life! - I fear the end of every night
No life! - I fear the end is drawing nigh
