No Devotion

No Devotion are a Welsh/American alternative rock band formed in 2014. Fronted by American singer Geoff Rickly (formerly of the band Thursday) from New Jersey, and former band members of the Welsh band Lostprophets from Pontypridd. It was formed almost 6 months after Lostprophets broke up on 1 October 2013.

The band has recently released three singles; "Stay", "10,000 Summers" and "Addition" and have released their album debut, Permanence, 25 September 2015, produced by Dave Fridmann. In early 2015, drummer Luke Johnson officially left the band. Also, the former drummer of Kids in Glass Houses, Philip Jenkins, temporarily entered No Devotion to help its members in their upcoming concerts.

History

Lostprophets (1997–2013)

Between 1997 and 2012, Mike Lewis, Lee Gaze, Stuart Richardson, and Jamie Oliver were members of the Welsh rock band Lostprophets, along with lead singer Ian Watkins (with Luke Johnson joining in 2009). On 19 December 2012, Watkins was charged with 13 sexual offences against children, and was subsequently sentenced to 35 years imprisonment the following year. On 1 October 2013, the remaining members announced Lostprophets' breakup saying that they would "no longer make or perform music as Lostprophets". The announcement was signed by all band members (except Watkins).

Bible study (Christian)

In Christianity, Bible study is the study of the Bible by ordinary people as a personal religious or spiritual practice. Some denominations may call this devotion or devotional acts; however in other denominations devotion has other meanings. Bible study in this sense is distinct from biblical studies, which is a formal academic discipline.

Personal Bible study

In Evangelical Protestantism, the time set aside to engage in personal Bible study and prayer is sometimes informally called a Quiet Time. In other traditions personal Bible study is referred to as "devotions". Catholic devotions and Anglican devotions both employ the Lectio Divina method of Bible reading.

Christians of all denominations may use Study Bibles and Bible Reading notes to assist them in their personal Bible studies. However, the use of such aids is discouraged in many churches, which advocate the simple reading of passages from the Bible. In some cases, the practice of reading through the entire Bible in a year is followed, this usually requires readings each day from both the Old and New Testament. This practice, however, has been widely criticised on the basis that the understanding gained of each specific passage is too vague.

Devotion (John McLaughlin album)

Devotion is the second album by the English jazz fusion guitarist John McLaughlin, released in 1970. It was recorded shortly after McLaughlin left the Miles Davis band and prior to forming The Mahavishnu Orchestra. McLaughlin was unhappy with the resulting album. On his website he writes: “In 1969, I sign a contract in America for 2 records. First is 'Devotion' that is destroyed by producer Alan Douglas who mixes the recording in my absence.”

Critical reception

In a contemporary review, Rolling Stone magazine called the album "very fine" and said that McLaughlin "has managed to make an album as Heavy as the most fanatical Led Zeppelin devotee could wish, while maintaining a high musical level". Allmusic awards the album four and a half stars and Sean Westergaard concludes "Devotion is a complete anomaly in his catalog, as well as one of his finest achievements."
