Nick Xenophon

Nicholas "Nick" Xenophon (born Xenophou; 29 January 1959) is an independent Senator for South Australia and leader of the Nick Xenophon Team political party, which will run candidates at the next federal election.

He was elected to the Australian Senate at the 2007 federal election, receiving 14.8 percent statewide. At the 2013 federal election Xenophon received a record vote of 24.9 percent, coming second behind the Liberal Party of Australia and ahead of the Australian Labor Party. Xenophon shared the balance of power with the Australian Greens and Family First Party during the 2008–2011 Senate, with the Greens holding the balance of power from 2011-2014. Since July 2014, Xenophon shares the balance of power with a record 18-member crossbench, which includes the Greens, Palmer United Party, and other minority parties and independents.

While his original 1997 platform centred on a policy of anti-gambling, he has since become an advocate in many other policy areas. This includes defence, education, health, infrastructure, regional affairs, foreign policy, and civil liberties.

Xenophon

Xenophon (/ˈzɛnəfən, -ˌfɒn/; Greek: Ξενοφῶν [ksenopʰɔ̂ːn], Xenophōn; c. 430 – 354 BC), son of Gryllus, of the deme Erchia of Athens, also known as Xenophon of Athens, was a Greek historian, soldier, mercenary, and student of Socrates. While not referred to as a philosopher by his contemporaries, his status as such is now a topic of debate. He is known for writing about the history of his own times, the late 5th and early 4th centuries BC, especially for his account of the final years of the Peloponnesian War. His Hellenica, which recounts these times, is considered to be the continuation of Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War. His youthful participation in the failed campaign of Cyrus the Younger to claim the Persian throne inspired him to write his most famous work, Anabasis.

Xenophon (son of Euripides)

Xenophon, son of Euripides, was one of the Athenian generals to whom Potidaea surrendered. Later in the same year (429 BC) Xenophon and two other generals led an expedition against the Chalcideans and Bottiaeans at the Battle of Spartolos, but were compelled to retreat into Potidaea

Xenophon (crater)

Xenophon is a small lunar crater that lies across the southern rim of the walled plain Fermi, to the west of the crater Tsiolkovskiy. South of Xenophon is Zhiritskiy F, a satellite crater of Zhiritskiy to the south-southwest.

The rim of this crater is eroded and crossed by several tiny craterlets, especially along the western edge. The interior floor is relatively featureless. This crater is located on the far side of the Moon and cannot be seen directly from the Earth.
