Nick Ross

Nicholas David Ross (born 7 August 1947, Hampstead, London) is an English radio and television presenter across a wide range of factual programmes. During the 1980s and 90s he was one of the most ubiquitous of British broadcasters but is best known for hosting of the BBC TV show Crimewatch which he left on 2 July 2007 after 23 years. He has subsequently filmed a major series for BBC One and has made documentaries for Radio 4. He is chairman, president, trustee or patron of a large number of charities.

Early life

Brought up in Surrey, Ross went to Wallington County Grammar School and then read psychology at Queen's University Belfast. He graduated with a BA (Hons), later became a Doctor of the University (honoris causa) and he was deputy president of the Student Union and a leader of the student civil rights movement in 1968 and 1969. He started in journalism by reporting on the violence in Belfast for BBC Northern Ireland.

Nick Ross (footballer, born 1863)

Nicholas John "Nick" Ross (2 January 1863 in Edinburgh – 1894) was a Scottish footballer.

He played for, and captained, Heart of Midlothian in the early stages of his football career before being persuaded to join Preston North End by club secretary William Sudell who also provided him with a job as a slater.

Ross was made captain of Preston and over the next few years earned a reputation as one of the best defenders in English football. He featured in the 1888 FA Cup Final where Preston were beaten 2–1 by West Bromwich Albion. He was transferred to Everton in 1888 where he was reportedly paid £10 per month — a significantly above-average wage for a footballer at the time.

He returned to Preston after just one season with Everton, during which time Preston won both the League Championship and the FA Cup. During his second spell with the club he was converted to a striker and helped the club win the 1889–90 League Championship, the second in a row. Health problems forced him to retire from football 1893 and he died a year later from Tuberculosis.

Nick Ross (footballer, born 1991)

Nick Ross (born 11 November 1991) is a Scottish professional football player who currently plays as an attacking midfielder for Scottish Premiership club Dundee. Ross has also previously played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and the Scotland under-21 team.

Inverness CT

Ross came through the youth ranks at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and ahead of the 2009–10 season, manager Terry Butcher stated Ross was among several youngsters selected for the first team squad. He made his debut for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in a match against Annan Athletic, as Inverness won 4–0 in the first round of the Scottish League Cup. His league debut came in a 0–0 draw against Ayr United on 15 August 2009. Ross then scored his first goal for the club against Greenock Morton, in a match Inverness won 1–0. Partly as a result of scoring his first goal, Ross's anticipated move to a club on loan was deferred. Days after scoring his first goal, he helped the club win the Inverness Cup after beating Clachnacuddin. Despite making only six appearances, he played a part in Inverness achieving promotion back to the Scottish Premier League.

Nick Ross (born February 10, 1989) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently playing for HC TWK Innsbruck of the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). He was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes with the 30th pick of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

Ross began his major junior career in the WHL with the Regina Pats in 2004–05, appearing in 10 games. After a 31-point campaign with the Pats in 2006–07, Ross was drafted 30th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes. The next season, back in the WHL, he was traded from the Pats to the Kamloops Blazers on January 5, 2008, along with Spencer Fraipont and a fourth-round bantam draft pick, in exchange for Victor Bartley and Ryan Bender. Upon being eliminated from the 2008 WHL playoffs with the Blazers, the Coyotes assigned Ross to the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the remaining 4 games of the 2007–08 AHL season.

Returning to the Blazers the following season, in 2008–09, Ross was traded, along with Alex Rodgers, just before the January 10, 2009 trade deadline, to the Vancouver Giants in exchange for Curtis Kulchar and three bantam draft picks. He finished the season with an accumulated 43 points between the two teams. In the subsequent 2009 playoffs, after sweeping the Prince George Cougars, the Giants were pushed to a seventh game against the Spokane Chiefs in the second round where Ross scored the series-clinching goal in overtime – a point shot that deflected off a Chiefs defenceman.
