Nick Miller (athlete)

Nicholas "Nick" Miller (born 1 May 1993) is a British track and field athlete who specialises in the hammer throw. He was the silver medallist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the gold medal at the 2015 European Athletics U23 Championships. He holds the British record of 77.55 m (254 ft 5 in) for the event.

He represented Great Britain at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics and the 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships. He studied at Oklahoma State University and is a five-time Big 12 Conference champion (three times in hammer, twice in weight throw). His personal best in the weight throw of 23.07 m (75 ft 8¹⁄₄ in) is the British record. He is also a two-time runner-up at the NCAA Championships.

Career

Early life and career

Born and raised in Carlisle, Cumbria, the son of Debra Brewer and Leonard Miller, he became interested in athletics after working with Jack Harper-Tarr, a physical education teacher and athletics judge. Miller began training in throwing events at the local club, Border Harriers & Athletics Club, where Harper-Tarr coached. Miller preferred individual sports and also took part in karate, winning a national youth age-category competition. Initially, he competed in a variety of track and field throwing events, but he became increasingly interested in the hammer throw after seeing a rival youngster throw beyond sixty metres.

Nick Miller (American football)

Nickelous "Nick" Miller (born March 29, 1987 in Mesa, Arizona) is a former American football wide receiver. He was signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at Southern Utah.

Miller has also played for the St. Louis Rams.

Early years

Miller played high school football at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Arizona. He was a 1st Team All-Region wide receiver; and a 2nd Team All-State honoree and 1st Team All-Tribune selection at defensive back. Miller recorded up 656 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his senior season. He also intercepted five passes and helped his team to an East Valley region championship.

Miller also lettered in baseball and track.

College career

After transferring from Scottsdale Community College, Miller became a starting wide receiver at Southern Utah University in 2007. He set an SUU record with 41 kickoff returns for 914 yards. He also finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards, with 35 catches for 435 yards and a touchdown. In addition to the 19 carries he had for 50 yards, he also led the team with 19 punt returns for 175 yards.

Nick Miller (artist)

Nick Miller (born 1962 in London) is an English artist working in Ireland.

In 1984 he graduated in Development Studies at the University of East Anglia. In that year he moved to Ireland, He lives and works in County Sligo. In recognition of his contribution to Irish Art, he was elected to Aosdána in 2001.

Significant exhibitions of his work have taken place at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1994, The Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin in 2003; The Butler Gallery, Kilkenny Castle in 2004; Limerick City Gallery of Art and Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris in 2007. In 2008 he exhibited at the gallery of the New York Studio School. He has shown widely in Ireland, and internationally.

He has gained critical recognition for his strong contemporary figurative portraits, and for the "Truckscapes", landscapes he paints in the North West of Ireland from a converted truck that he uses as his mobile studio, In 2014 he received the inaugural Hennessy Portrait Prize, held at the National Gallery of Ireland. The award for €20,000, which includes a commission for a new work for the National Portrait Collection, was given for his painting "Last sitting: Portrait of Barrie Cooke", the renowned artist and friend of Miller who died in 2014.

Nick Miller (Canadian football)

Nick Miller (born September 15, 1931) was a Canadian football player who played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He won the Grey Cup with Winnipeg in 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1962.

Nicholas James Miller (born 8 January 1970) is a British weather forecaster (born in York), working for the BBC. He joined the team at the BBC Weather Centre in London in January 2007, and can now be seen presenting on BBC News, BBC World News, BBC Radio 4 and BBC One. He appears regularly on the BBC News at One the BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten.

Early life

He was born in York, and attended Nunthorpe Grammar School, then a selective school (until 1985), in York, later going to the University of Nottingham.

Career

In 2012 he was the reporter on a BBC One Inside Out Special about the drought. His report was networked across all regional versions of the programme. In December 2012 he also provided a networked report in a BBC One regional special shown in England, Wales and Northern Ireland about the weather of 2012.

He also reports for BBC News including a report on the 25th anniversary of the Great Storm in which he interviewed Michael Fish about his infamous broadcast.
