Newmarket GO Station

Newmarket GO Station is a train station in the GO Transit network located in the Old Davis Tannery Centre on the north side of Davis Drive East in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, and is a stop on the Barrie line train service. It is a little over two kilometres east of the Newmarket Bus Terminal, at Davis Drive West and Eagle Street, which is a terminus for GO Bus, York Region Transit and Viva BRT services.

History

In 1853 the Ontario, Simcoe and Huron Railway opened the line between Toronto and Collingwood which was acquired by the Grand Trunk Railway in 1888 and later merged into the Canadian National Railway.

Newmarket railway station was built on the south side of Davis Drive by the Grand Trunk Railway in 1900. The original station building is a one-storey wood clad stick frame building with board and batten siding associated with the Carpenter Gothic style. The west side has a projecting bay window flanked by waiting rooms, originally the south room for women and the north room for men.

Newmarket (Hampton, Virginia)

Newmarket is a division in both Hampton and in Newport News.

This division is furthest corner in Hampton and runs into Newport News. The area is was known for the formal Newmarket north mall today the NETcenter. The area includes a housing neighborhood and an apartment complex. The area was formed in the 1960s during the time when Hampton was Elizabeth City County this area was once farms and plantations after the merge with Hampton and the expansion of Military Highway or Mercury Boulevard. this section boomed with a neighborhood and a mall. the mall stayed open until 2003 the government bought the building.

Newmarket (UK Parliament constituency)

Newmarket is a former United Kingdom Parliamentary constituency. It was created upon the splitting up of the three member Cambridgeshire constituency into three single member divisions in 1885. The seat was abolished in 1918.

Boundaries

The Redistribution of Seats Act 1885 split the former three-member Cambridgeshire parliamentary county into three single-member divisions. One of these was the Eastern or Newmarket Division. The seat was named after the town of Newmarket, which is famous as a centre of horse racing. Newmarket lay at the centre of the constituency, although only part of the town (All Saints Parish) was within the parliamentary county of Cambridgeshire and formed part of this seat. The Local Government Act 1888 made the entirety of Newmarket urban sanitary district part of the administrative county of West Suffolk. However this did not affect the parliamentary boundaries until 1918. The small city of Ely was the only other urban area.

Newmarket, Ontario

Newmarket is a town in York Region in the Canadian province of Ontario located north of Toronto. It is part of the Greater Toronto Area and Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario. In the Canada 2011 Census, the municipal population of Newmarket was 79,978. It is the regional seat of York Region. Many Newmarket residents commute to Toronto and its surrounding communities. Some of Newmarket's most noticeable landmarks are the Upper Canada Mall, Southlake Regional Health Centre, the Main Street Heritage Conservation District, the Fairy Lake Conservation Area, as well as many other parks and recreation areas.

In 2013, MoneySense magazine ranked Newmarket 10th out of 200 cities in Canada, and 4th out of the "Top 10 Small Cities" in Canada in its "Canada's Best Places to Live in 2013".

Geography

Newmarket's geographical coordinates are 44.05°N, 79.46°W, and its elevation above sea level is 239 m. It has an area of 38.33 km². The town is bounded on the south by Aurora, on the west by King, on the north by East Gwillimbury and on the east by Whitchurch–Stouffville.

Newmarket (MBTA station)

Newmarket is a passenger rail station on the MBTA Commuter Rail's Fairmount Line, located off Massachusetts Avenue at Newmarket Square in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The station has two 800-foot high-level platforms and sloping walkways connecting it to Massachusetts Avenue. Originally planned to be in service in 2011, it opened on July 1, 2013 along with Four Corners/Geneva Ave.

History

Previous service

Service on the Fairmount Line (as the Dorchester Branch of the Norfolk County Railroad and later the New York and New England Railroad and New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad) began in 1855 and lasted until 1944. There were stations located in South Boston and at Dudley Street (now the site of Uphams Corner station) but not at Massachusetts Avenue. Newmarket is thus the first railroad station located at the site. Temporary shuttle service resumed on the Fairmount Line in 1979 during Southwest Corridor construction, with stops at Uphams Corner, Morton Street, and Fairmount. The MBTA planned to drop the shuttle after service resumed on the Southwest Corridor in 1987, but the service was locally popular and the Fairmount Line became a permanent part of the system.
