Old Boys

The terms Old Boys and Old Girls are the usual expressions in use in the United Kingdom for former pupils or "alumni" of primary and secondary schools. While these are traditionally associated with independent schools, they are also used for some schools in the state sector. The term is also used for those who attended New Zealand schools, Sri Lankan schools, a few universities in the UK and, to a lesser extent, schools in Australia, Canada and South Africa.

The Old Boy form is given a specific identification for each school. Some schools use an adjectival form of the school name, such as "Old Etonian", "Old Harrovian",or "Old Reptonian" (old boys of Eton College, Harrow School, and Repton School). Some use a Latin form derived from the Latin name of the school or its location as "Old Novaportan" (old boys of Adams' Grammar School, Newport, Shropshire). Some are based on the name of the founder, such as "Old Wykehamist" and "Old Alleynian" (for old boys of Winchester College, founded by William of Wykeham, and Dulwich College, founded by Edward Alleyn). Some are based on the school's location or street, such as "Old Gowers" (for University College School, originally in Gower Street). Many of the schools have histories dating back several hundred years, and the Old Boy forms may have been in use for a hundred years or more. Other more recently established schools have devised Old Boy names that are distinctive to prevent confusion with other schools. The tradition for many girls schools has been to use the term "Seniors" rather than "Old Girls".

Old Boys (Chinese: 11度青春之《老男孩》) is a Chinese short comedy film directed by Xiao Yang. It became popular via the Internet. A drama adaption of the film has been announced recently.

Plot

Xiao Dabao and Wang Xiaoshuai, two boys, used to be good friends in their childhood, because they were both crazy about Michael Jackson and have both been rejected by the most beautiful girl in school. Once they had grown up, neither of them was rich or living a very comfortable life. After learning about the death of Michael Jackson, they decided to take part in a singing competition. They performed a song called "Old Boys," which contained their old memories. Unfortunately, they failed the competition once they reached the top 50. However, their performance touched the judges and a lot of the audience. Taking part in the competition ended up being an important new experience in their lives.

Newell's Old Boys

Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys (Spanish pronunciation: [kluβ aðˈletiko ˈnjuwels ol ˈβojs]; is an Argentine sports club based in Rosario, Santa Fe. The club was founded on 3 November 1903, and is named after Isaac Newell, one of the pioneers of Argentine football.

Originally member of Rosario's Football Association, Newell's affiliated to the Argentine Football Association (AFA) in 1939. They were the 2013 champions in Argentine football, and have won AFA's Primera División six times throughout their history. Newell's has also been twice Copa Libertadores runner-up (in 1988 and 1992).

The club's football stadium is the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa, named after the team's former player and manager Marcelo Bielsa (twice champion, and runner-up of one Copa Libertadores). Newell's plays the Rosario derby against Rosario Central, a club with which they have a huge historical rivalry.

Newell's is also notable for its youth divisions, being the club with most national titles in AFA's youth tournaments. Players from the club's youths who have represented Argentina at World Cups are Gabriel Batistuta, Américo Gallego, Jorge Valdano, Gabriel Heinze, Roberto Sensini, Mauricio Pocchettino and Maxi Rodríguez, among others. Lionel Messi also played in the club's youths, but left at a young age to Barcelona to seek treatment for his growth hormone deficiency, while Diego Maradona played briefly for the first team in 1993 (5 games).

Old Boys' AFC

Old Boys' Association Football Club is a junior and senior football club based in the southern New Zealand city of Invercargill.

Old Boys' was founded in 1959 by a small group of Southland Boys High School old boys – hence the name Old Boys'. In 1960 the old Brigadiers AFC clubrooms were purchased at Waverley Park. The current clubrooms were built by volunteer labour and were completed in 1979.

Old Boys' is a regular entrant to the Chatham Cup, recording its best season in 2009, when it reached the last 32 stage of the competition. It currently plays in the Donald Gray division, the premiere men's football grade in Southland. The team has won the Southland Region's Donald Gray Memorial Cup on six occasions.

Old Boys won promotion to the FootballSouth Premier League for the 2013 season. They were the only Invercargill side in the league since Southland Spirit FC pulled out at the end of 2011. A 9th-place finish saw the side relegated from the competition.

With close to 300 registered junior and senior players Old Boys' has become the largest football club in Southland.
