New Hyde Park, New York

New Hyde Park is an area that includes the incorporated Village of New Hyde Park in Nassau County, Long Island, New York, United States, as well as surrounding unincorporated areas. The place name, New Hyde Park, and its postal codes, 11040-11099, are used to serve all of these areas.

The incorporated Village of New Hyde Park is located in both the Town of Hempstead and the Town of North Hempstead.

The population of the Village of New Hyde Park was 9,712 at the 2010 census. Because of its close proximity and relatively short commute to Manhattan, it is primarily a commuter town with over 75% of the land used for single family residences, but also has warehouses near the Long Island Rail Road station and retail districts along Jericho Turnpike.

History

Thomas Dongan, the fourth royal governor of New York, was granted an 800-acre parcel of land in 1683 that included New Hyde Park. It was known as "Dongan's Farm." Dongan built a mansion on what is now Lakeville Road. In 1691 Dongan fled to New England and then Ireland, as King James II and his Catholic forces failed to regain power in England and Ireland.

One Hyde Park

One Hyde Park is a major residential and retail complex located in Knightsbridge, London. The development includes three retail units (Rolex, McLaren Automotive and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank) totalling 385,000 sq ft (35,800 m²) and 86 residential properties marketed with prices starting at around £20 million.

The building is owned by Project Grande (Guernsey) Limited, a joint venture between the Christian Candy-owned CPC Group and Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. It was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, built by Laing O'Rourke and was financed via a £1.15 billion development loan from Eurohypo AG. Candy & Candy were the development managers and interior designers for the scheme.

Hyde Park station

Hyde Park is an under-construction at-grade light rail station in the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. It will be located near the corner of Crenshaw Blvd and Slauson Avenue, serving the Hyde Park district of Los Angeles. The station will be served by the Crenshaw/LAX Line. This station is currently under construction and slated to be open in 2019.

Hyde Park Railroad Station

The Hyde Park Railroad Station is the former New York Central Railroad station located where Crum Elbow Creek flows into the Hudson River in Hyde Park, New York, USA. A one-story wooden station was first established by the Central at the spot in 1851 by the Hudson River Railroad, connecting New York City and Albany. It was replaced by the existing building, built in a combination of the Mission and Spanish Revival styles by Warren and Wetmore, the railroad's preferred architects who had also designed Grand Central Terminal and the nearby Poughkeepsie station, in 1914.

The station saw heavy use throughout the early years of its existence, due to the proximity of estates such as the Vanderbilt Mansion and, later, President Franklin D. Roosevelt's frequent retreats to his home in Hyde Park. Roosevelt is known to have passed through the station twice during his presidency: in 1939 when he greeted King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom on their 1939 visit, and posthumously in 1945 when his body was unloaded there in preparation for burial.
