New Hope, Minnesota

New Hope is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States and a suburb of Minneapolis. The population was 20,339 at the 2010 census.

History

New Hope was originally a farming community in Crystal Lake Township. In 1936, the city of Crystal, Minnesota, was incorporated, taking up all of former Crystal Lake Township. The farmers in the western part of the city broke off and formed New Hope Township. In 1953, with suburbia moving in and farmers moving out, New Hope incorporated as a city.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.10 square miles (13.21 km²), of which, 5.04 square miles (13.05 km²) is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km²) is water. It is 12 miles northwest of downtown Minneapolis.

There are no highways in the City of New Hope.

Education

Most students in grades K–12 attend public schools in the Robbinsdale School District.

As of the census of 2010, there were 20,339 people, 8,427 households, and 5,032 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,035.5 inhabitants per square mile (1,558.1/km²). There were 9,051 housing units at an average density of 1,795.8 per square mile (693.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 74.5% White, 14.7% African American, 0.4% Native American, 3.8% Asian, 2.9% from other races, and 3.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.5% of the population.

Hope is an unincorporated community in Somerset Township, Steele County, Minnesota, United States. Although it is unincorporated, Hope has a post office with ZIP code 56046.

Geography

The community is located between Ellendale and Owatonna near Interstate 35 and Steele County Road 4. Nearby places include Ellendale, Owatonna, and Bixby. Hope is seven miles north of Ellendale, and 11 miles south of Owatonna. The Straight River is nearby.

History

Hope had a depot on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. A post office called Hope has been in operation since 1916.

New Hope is a borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA. The population was 2,528 at the 2010 census. The borough lies on the west bank of the Delaware River at its confluence with Auqetong Creek. The two-lane New Hope – Lambertville Bridge carries automobile and foot traffic across the Delaware to Lambertville, New Jersey on the east bank. New Hope's primary industry is tourism.

History

New Hope is located along the route of the Old York Road, the former main highway between Philadelphia and New York City. It was generally regarded as the halfway point, where travelers would stay overnight and be ferried across the river the next morning. Though this route is largely obsolete, the section of U.S. Route 202 that passes just north of town still bears the name York Road. The original route is now known as Bridge St. (PA 179).

Minnesota wine

Minnesota wine refers to wine made from grapes grown in the U.S. state of Minnesota. Minnesota is part of the largest American Viticultural Area (AVA), the Upper Mississippi Valley AVA, which includes southwest Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and northwest Illinois. The state also has a smaller designated American Viticultural Areas, the Alexandria Lakes AVA. Minnesota is a very cold climate for viticulture and many grape varieties require protection from the winter weather by being buried under soil for the season. Minnesota is home to extensive research on cold-hardy French hybrid and other grape varieties.

The Minnesota Grape Growers Association (MGGA) is a statewide organization that promotes grape growing and wine making in the state and also in cold-hardy climates. Minnesota is home to the International Cold Climate Wine Competition (ICCWC) hosted annually by a partnership between MGGA and University of Minnesota. This is the only wine competition solely dedicated to the promotion of quality wines made mainly from cold-hardy grape varieties. In 2014, the 6th annual competition saw 284 wines entered from 59 commercial wineries in 11 states. Awards were based on blind tastings by 21 expert judges, who include enologists, wine writers, restaurateurs, retailers, and wine educators.
