New Maps of Hell (Bad Religion album)

New Maps of Hell is Bad Religion's fourteenth full-length studio album (twentieth release overall), which was released on July 10, 2007. It celebrates the 25th anniversary of their first album How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, although the band had been around for twenty-eight years.

The title is something of a departure for the band, in the sense that most Bad Religion albums have an eponymous title track, except How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, Into the Unknown, The Process of Belief and The Dissent of Man. The title may refer to a book on Science Fiction history by Kingsley Amis published in 1961 (see here ). Guitarist Brett Gurewitz stated "We all liked the concept of maps, because we are exploring new material on this record, both musically and topically."

Bad Religion's follow-up to 2004's The Empire Strikes First was originally rumored to be a double album to be released in 2006, but this was denied by bassist Jay Bentley. Due to the band's ongoing support with their previous release, the album was put on hold until 2007. Another one of the reasons why the band had yet to release a follow-up to The Empire Strikes First was their various other activities, most obviously frontman Greg Graffin's, who released his second solo album in 2006, following his first since 1997.

Chronology of the universe

The chronology of the universe describes the history and future of the universe according to Big Bang cosmology, the prevailing scientific model of how the universe developed over time from the Planck epoch, using the cosmological time parameter of comoving coordinates. The model of the universe's expansion is known as the Big Bang. As of 2015, this expansion is estimated to have begun 13.799 ± 0.021 billion years ago. It is convenient to divide the evolution of the universe so far into three phases.

Summary

In the first phase, the very earliest universe was so hot, or energetic, that initially no matter particles existed or could exist perhaps only fleetingly. According to prevailing scientific theories, at this time the distinct forces we see around us today were joined in one unified force. Space-time itself expanded during an inflationary epoch due to the immensity of the energies involved. Gradually the immense energies cooled – still to a temperature inconceivably hot compared to any we see around us now, but sufficiently to allow forces to gradually undergo symmetry breaking, a kind of repeated condensation from one status quo to another, leading finally to the separation of the strong force from the electroweak force and the first particles.

Dark Ages is the fifth studio album by the metal band Soulfly. The album was released on October 4, 2005.

The album explores aggression and dark themes to mourn the deaths of Max Cavalera's 8-month-old grandson, Moses, and his close friend Dimebag Darrell.Dark Ages was recorded in five countries – Serbia, Turkey, Russia, France, and the United States. Cavalera praised this album by calling it "unorthodox metal." The album is criticized for containing a lot of Sepultura influences, making it heavier than any Soulfly album before it.

Songs

The album opens with an intro track "The Dark Ages," which continues into "Babylon," which explores worldwide chaos. "Arise Again" combines Metallica-like riffs and Sepultura-like echoes.

"Corrosion Creeps" is dedicated to Chuck Schuldiner of Death. "Fuel the Hate" begins with the lyric line 'Monday, July 16, 1945, 5:30am', exact time and date when 'Trinity' nuclear test occurred. It was around this time that the lyrical themes began to move away from the earlier spiritual themes and began incorporating more violent and aggressive elements. Richie Cavalera, Max's son, co-sings on "Staystrong" as a tribute to youthful deaths of Moses and Dana.
