Nefertiti Bust

The Nefertiti Bust is a 3,300-year-old painted stucco-coated limestone bust of Nefertiti, the Great Royal Wife of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten. The work is believed to have been crafted in 1345 BC by the sculptor Thutmose, because it was found in his workshop in Amarna, Egypt. It is one of the most copied works of ancient Egypt. Owing to the work, Nefertiti has become one of the most famous women of the ancient world, and an icon of feminine beauty.

A German archaeological team led by Ludwig Borchardt discovered the Nefertiti bust in 1912 in Thutmose's workshop. It has been kept at various locations in Germany since its discovery, including the cellar of a bank, a salt mine in Merkers-Kieselbach, the Dahlem museum, the Egyptian Museum in Charlottenburg and the Altes Museum. It is currently on display at the Neues Museum in Berlin, where it was originally displayed before World War II.

The Nefertiti bust has become a cultural symbol of Berlin as well as ancient Egypt. Nefertiti herself has become quite an icon. Nefertiti is widely known for her beauty and versatility. It has also been the subject of an intense argument between Egypt and Germany over Egyptian demands for its repatriation. It was dragged into controversy by the Body of Nefertiti art exhibition and also by doubts over its authenticity.

Nefertiti

Neferneferuaten Nefertiti (/ˌnɛfərˈtiːti/) (ca. 1370 – ca. 1330 BC) was an Egyptian queen and the Great Royal Wife (chief consort) of Akhenaten, an Egyptian Pharaoh. Nefertiti and her husband were known for a religious revolution, in which they worshiped one god only, Aten, or the sun disc. Akhenaten and Nefertiti were responsible for the creation of a whole new religion which changed the ways of religion within Egypt. With her husband, she reigned at what was arguably the wealthiest period of Ancient Egyptian history. Some scholars believe that Nefertiti ruled briefly as Neferneferuaten after her husband's death and before the accession of Tutankhamun, although this identification is a matter of ongoing debate.

Nefertiti had many titles including Hereditary Princess (iryt-p`t); Great of Praises (wrt-hzwt); Lady of Grace (nbt-im3t), Sweet of Love (bnrt-mrwt); Lady of The Two Lands (nbt-t3wy); Main King’s Wife, his beloved (hmt-niswt-‘3t meryt.f); Great King’s Wife, his beloved (hmt-niswt-wrt meryt.f), Lady of all Women (hnwt-hmwt-nbwt); and Mistress of Upper and Lower Egypt (hnwt-Shm’w-mhw).

Nefertiti, the Beautiful One Has Come

Nefertiti, the Beautiful One Has Come is an album by the Cecil Taylor Unit, recorded live at the Café Montmartre in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 23, 1962. This concert is a key item in Taylor's discography, demonstrating a much free-er approach to improvisation than his prior recordings for Candid, and for being nearly the complete recorded output of his period from 1962 to mid 1966.

Part of the concert was first released on LP as Live at the Café Montmartre, with more following on the LP Nefertiti, the Beautiful One Has Come. (Material was also issued as Innovations, Trance (Black Lion Records) and What's New.) The complete Café Montmartre recordings were finally released on Revenant Records in 1997. It is key documentation of the group's evolution into lengthy collective performances.

Saxophonist Albert Ayler also played on certain nights, but not on these recordings. The one extant recording of the quartet performance at Café Montmartre was released in 2004 on Holy Ghost, Revenant Records's 9-disc box of Albert Ayler recordings.

Nefertiti (Andrew Hill album)

Nefertiti is the twentieth album by American jazz pianist Andrew Hill, recorded in 1976 and originally released on the Japanese East Wind label. The album features six of Hill's original compositions performed by a trio.

Reception

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4 stars and stated "although the music seems slightly more conservative than usual for a Hill set, the music is consistently stimulating".
