Minnesota State Highway 61 (MN 61) is a highway in northeast Minnesota, which runs from a junction with Interstate Highway 35 in Duluth at 26th Avenue East, and continues northeast to its northern terminus at the U.S.Canadian border near Grand Portage. The roadway becomes Ontario Highway 61 upon entering Canada at the Pigeon River Bridge, and terminates at the Trans-Canada Highway in Thunder Bay. Minnesota Highway 61 is 149 miles (240 km) in length.

The route is a scenic highway, following the North Shore of Lake Superior, and is part of the Lake Superior Circle Tour designation that runs through Minnesota, Ontario, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

This roadway was designated U.S. Highway 61 until 1991. This highway, then U.S. 61, is the road that musician Bob Dylan referred to in the album and song Highway 61 Revisited.

The North Shore Scenic Drive is an All-American Road scenic byway designated route that follows Saint Louis County Road 61 / Lake County Road 61 / State Highway 61, formerly U.S. 61, from the city of Duluth, Minnesota to the Canadian border near Grand Portage. The route stays close to the rocky North Shore of Lake Superior, offering spectacular vistas of the lake to the southeast as it skirts along the foothills of the Sawtooth Range to the northwest.

    Highway 61 (film)

Highway 61 is a 1991 film by Canadian director Bruce McDonald. The film is an unofficial sequel to his 1989 film Roadkill; although focusing on different characters, it centres on a road trip beginning in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where the road trip depicted in the earlier film ended.

    Synopsis

The film stars Don McKellar as Pokey Jones, an orphaned barber in a small town near Thunder Bay, who dreams of becoming a jazz musician. One morning, Jones discovers a frozen corpse (Steve Fall) in his backyard, and soon meets Jackie Bangs (Valerie Buhagiar), a tough and mysterious roadie who claims the dead man is her brother.

Jackie's real intention is to use the body, a vagrant unknown to anyone in town, to smuggle stolen drugs into the United States. She convinces Pokey to use his parents' car, which hasn't been driven in decades, to drive her to New Orleans to bury her brother. So Jackie and Pokey set out along Highway 61, coffin strapped to the top of the car, and follow Bob Dylan's famous U.S. Highway 61 south through the heart of the United States. They're pursued by Mr. Skin (Earl Pastko), who believes he's Satan and wants to claim the body because the dead man sold Mr. Skin his soul.

    Nebraska

Nebraska i/nəˈbræskə/ is a state that lies in both the Great Plains and the Midwestern United States. Its state capital is Lincoln. Its largest city is Omaha, which is on the Missouri River. The state is crossed by many historic trails and was explored by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The California Gold Rush brought the first large numbers of non-indigenous settlers to the area. Nebraska was admitted as the 37th state of the United States in 1867. The climate has wide variations between winter and summer temperatures, and violent thunderstorms and tornadoes are common. The state is characterized by treeless prairie, which is ideal for cattle-grazing. It is a major producer of beef, as well as pork, corn, and soybeans. The largest ancestry group claimed by Nebraskans is German American. The state also has the largest per capita population of Czech Americans among U.S. states.

    Etymology

Nebraska's name is derived from transliteration of the archaic Otoe words Ñí Brásge, pronounced [ɲĩbɾasꜜkɛ] (contemporary Otoe Ñí Bráhge), or the Omaha Ní Btháska, pronounced [nĩbɫᶞasꜜka], meaning "flat water", after the Platte River that flows through the state.

    Nebraska (disambiguation)

Nebraska is a state in the central United States.

  • Nebraska (album)

Nebraska is the sixth studio album, and the first acoustic album by Bruce Springsteen. The album was released on September 30, 1982, by Columbia Records.

Sparsely-recorded on a cassette-tape Portastudio, the tracks on Nebraska were originally intended as demos of songs to be recorded with the E Street Band. However, Springsteen ultimately decided to release the demos himself. Nebraska remains one of the most highly regarded albums in his catalogue. The songs on Nebraska both deal with ordinary, blue collar characters who face a challenge or a turning point in their lives, but also outsiders, criminals and mass murderers, who have little hope for the future - or no future at all, as in the title track, where the main character is sentenced to death in the electric chair. Unlike his previous albums, very little salvation and grace is present within the songs. The album's uncompromising sound and mood, combined with its dark lyrical content has been described by a music critic as "one of the most challenging albums ever released by a major star on a major record label."

    Highway 61

    by: Dr. Feelgood

    (bob dylan)
God said to abraham 'kill me a son'
Abe said 'man, you must be putting me on'
God said 'no' - abe said 'what? '
God said 'you can do what you want abe,
But next time you see me coming you better run'
Abe said 'where'd you want this killing done? '
God said 'out on highway 61'
Georgia sam he had a bloody nose
The wellfare department they wouldn't give him no clothes
He asked poor howard 'where can I go? '
Howard says 'there's only one place I know'
Sam said 'tell me quick man I got to run'
Oh, howard he just pointed with his gun
He said 'that's way down highway 61'
Mack the finger said to louis the king
'i got fourty red-white-blue shoe strings
And a thousand telephones that don't ring
Do you know where I can get rid of these things? '
Louis the king said 'let me think for a minute son'
And he said 'yes, I think it can be easily done -
Just take everything down to highway 61'
Well the 5th daughter on the 12th night
Told the 1st father that things weren't right
My complexion she says is much too white
He says 'come here step into the light'
He says 'mam you're right - let me tell
The 2nd mother this has been love'
But the 2nd mother was with the 7th son
And they were both out on highway 61
Now the roving gambler he was very bored
Trying to create a next world war
He found a promoter who nearly fell on the floor
He said 'i never engaged in this kind of thing before'
But yes, I think it can be very easily done
Well just put some bleachers out in the sun
