ATN

ATN is the Sydney flagship television station of the Seven Network in Australia. The licence, issued to a company named Amalgamated Television Services, a subsidiary of Fairfax, was one of the first four licences (two in Sydney, two in Melbourne) to be issued for commercial television stations in Australia. It began broadcasting on 2 December 1956.

The station formed an affiliation with GTV-9 Melbourne in 1957, in order to share content. In 1963, Frank Packer ended up owning both GTV-9 and TCN-9, so as a result the stations switched their previous affiliations. ATN-7 and HSV-7 joined to create the Australian Television Network, which later became the Seven Network. ATN-7 is the home of the national level Seven News bulletins.

The studios and transmission tower

The station opened in 1956 with principal offices and studios located at Mobbs Lane, Epping (a suburb about 18 kilometres north west of Sydney). The initial black and white cameras and other equipment was supplied by the Marconi Company of England. Conversion to PAL colour occurred on 1 March 1975. Digital DVB-T commenced on 1 January 2001.

Atrophin-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ATN1 gene. It is expressed in nervous tissue.

Function

Dentatorubral pallidoluysian atrophy is a rare neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cerebellar ataxia, myoclonic epilepsy, choreoathetosis, and dementia. The disorder is related to the expansion of a trinucleotide repeat within this gene. The encoded protein includes a serine repeat and a region of alternating acidic and basic amino acids, as well as the variable glutamine repeat. Alternative splicing results in two transcripts variants that encode the same protein.

Clinical significance

Mutations in ATN1 are associated with a form of trinucleotide repeat disorder known as "dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy" or "dentatorubropallidoluysian atrophy".

Bis-choline tetrathiomolybdate, or WTX101, is a salt of tetrathiomolybdate (TTM, MoS₄²⁻) and choline currently under investigation as a therapy against Wilson's disease, a rare and potentially fatal disease in which the body cannot regulate copper. Wilson disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder that is manifested by serious hepatic, neurologic or psychiatric symptoms. The disease is fatal if left undiagnosed and untreated. It is estimated that approximately 1 individual in every 15,000 worldwide have Wilson's disease, corresponding to approximately 30,000 individuals in the European Union and approximately 20,000 in the United States.

Bis-choline tetrathiomolybdate has been evaluated in clinical trials in patients with various forms of cancer and has received orphan designation in the US and EU as a potential therapy against Wilson disease.

Bis-choline salt of tetrathiomolybdate is a de-coppering therapy in clinical development against Wilson disease under the code name WTX101 by Wilson Therapeutics AB. Wilson Therapeutics was founded by HealthCap in 2012.

Near is a privately held location intelligence platform founded in Nov 2012 having direct presence in Australia, Japan, South East Asia, India, Europe, and USA. Near is headquartered in Singapore.

History

Near was founded as AdNear in Bangalore by Anil Mathews, who served as the CEO of the company. Instead of GPS, the platform used data from mobile towers and wifi networks to determine a person’s location, though it later added GPS to the location data as well. The Near platform utilizing this data was launched in November 2012. In 2013, the company moved its headquarters from Bangalore to Singapore. The company has received funding from venture capital firms Sequoia Capital,JP Morgan Private Equity Group,Telstra Ventures and Global Brain Corporation. It raised $6.5 million in Series A funding, and the $19 million raised in its 2014 Series B fundraising was the most raised by any company that year. In 2015, the company changed its name from AdNear to Near.

Platform

As of February 2014, the platform had about 100 million profiled users taken from forty thousand or so mobile apps into which Near has been integrated, by summer 2014 250 million users had been profiled, and by October 500 million had been profiled. By the summer of 2015, they had profiled about 700 million users. Platforms users have included seven of the eleven largest automobile companies began using the platform, as well as additional Fortune 100 companies.

Near (Death Note)

Nate River (Japanese: ネイト・リバー, Hepburn: Neito Ribā), universally referred to by the mononym Near (ニア, Nia), is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. Near is the younger of the two successors of L who was investigating the methods of identifying Kira, the in-universe name given to the mysterious serial killer who murdered criminals by means of the eponymous Death Note. He becomes the leader of the SPK (Special Provision for Kira), an organization that looks into the Kira case, and in the end, succeeds in uncovering Kira's identity. He is voiced by Noriko Hidaka in the Japanese anime, and by Cathy Weseluck in the English version. In the Japanese TV Drama, he is portrayed by Mio Yūki.

Creation and conception

Tsugumi Ohba, writer of Death Note said that he introduced Near and Mello together as L individually could not defeat Kira. Ohba felt that introducing one character individually would produce a "repeat" of the struggle between Light and L, so he instead wanted a story involving three combatants fighting each other. Ohba said that he let Obata create the character designs and asked him to make both characters look "a little "L-ish"". Ohba said that he "wavered" in their ages and considered making the characters the sons of L. Ohba added that he did not initially develop their personalities as he wanted to "reveal" them through their actions.
