Freeway No. 8 is a freeway, which begins in Annan District of Tainan City and ends in Xinhua District, Tainan on the Provincial Highway No. 20. The first 4.2 kilometers of the freeway (from Provincial Highway 17a to Tainan District Road 133) is expressway-standard road with partial controlled access, while the rest is controlled-access highway.

Iowa Highway 8

Iowa Highway 8 is a state highway that runs from east to west in east central Iowa. Highway 8 is a short state highway in Iowa, at only 14 miles (23 km) long. Iowa 8 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 63 in Traer and ends at an intersection with U.S. Route 218 northwest of Garrison. The route has largely remained the same since its designation.

Route description

Iowa 8 begins in downtown Traer at an intersection with US 63. As it exits the small community, it turns to the southeast and then again to the east, forming a long S curve. Through Tama County, the highway travels over a plain with farmland on either side of the road.Two miles (3.2 km) west of Dysart, the road is intersected by Iowa 21, which joins Iowa 8 from the north. For the next 2.5 miles (4.0 km), the two highways run together until they reach the eastern limits of Dysart, which is also the Tama–Benton county line. Now in Benton County, the Iowa 8 continues due east. The final three miles (4.8 km) of the route are much hillier than the preceding ten miles (16 km). The highway ends at the midpoint of a 90-degree turn along US 218 northwest of Garrison.

Oregon Route 8

Oregon Route 8, also known as Oregon Highway 8, is an Oregon state highway which serves the western suburbs of Portland. The road is locally known as Canyon Road and Tualatin Valley Highway, and travels through the center of the Tualatin Valley. Oregon 8 is located entirely within Washington County. The portion of the route from US 26 to Oregon Route 47 is part of the National Highway System, listed as a principal arterial.

Route description

The eastern terminus of OR 8 is an interchange with U.S. Route 26 (which is, at that point, the Sunset Highway) just west of the Portland city limits and the Washington-Multnomah county line. Initially, it is also known as Canyon Road, since it comes out of the gulch in which the Sunset Highway runs. The official designation, beginning from the eastern terminus, is the Tualatin Valley Highway No. 29 (see Oregon highways and routes).

Continuing west, OR 8 enters the suburb of Beaverton, and after its interchange with Oregon Route 217, a freeway, its posted name changes to the Tualatin Valley (TV) Highway at Hocken Avenue. It comes within one block of Oregon Route 10, running parallel but never intersecting, although commuters often use surface streets to change between the highways.

West Virginia Route 8

West Virginia Route 8 is a north–south state highway in Hancock County in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle. The southern terminus of the route is at West Virginia Route 2 on the northern outskirts of New Cumberland. The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 30 southeast of Chester.

WV 8 was formerly part of WV 2, with WV 66 following present WV 2 north of New Cumberland.

National highways of Japan

Japan has a nationwide system of national highways (一般国道, Ippan Kokudō) distinct from the expressways. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and other government agencies administer the national highways. Beginning in 1952, Japan classified these as Class 1 or Class 2. Class 1 highways had one- or two-digit numbers, while Class 2 highways had three-digit numbers. For example, Routes 1 and 58 were Class 1 highways while 507 (the one with the highest number) was a Class 2 highway.

A 1964 amendment to the governing law resulted in a unification of the classes, which took effect in April of the following year. Highways numbered since that time have had three-digit numbers, so the numbers 58–100, which had so far been unused, remained unused. However, when Okinawa Prefecture was reverted to Japanese control in 1972, Route 58, with its southern endpoint in Okinawa's capital city of Naha, was established. The numbers from 59 to 100 remain unused. Some other numbers have been vacated by the joining or changing of routes: 109 (joined with 108), 110 (renumbered as 48), 111 (renumbered as 45), 214–216 (joined to form 57).
