Nara Bhupal Shah (1697–1743) was the father of Prithvi Narayan Shah. He was the king of the Gorkha or Gurkha state in Nepal. He was a brave and courageous man. He tried to extend his kingdom by capturing Nuwakot but he failed. After his death his eldest son Prithvi Narayan Shah resumed to try to capture more kingdoms, and he succeeded but not only Nuwakot but other states also. Nara Bhupal Shah is a familiar figure in Nepal history.
