Nadodi Mannan (1958 film)

Nadodi Mannan (English: The Vagabond King) is a 1958 Tamil language adventure film directed, produced by and starring M. G. Ramachandran in dual roles. The film features P. Bhanumathi, B. Saroja Devi as heroines of the film, while P. S. Veerappa and M. N. Nambiar play the villains. The film, had musical score by S. M. Subbaiah Naidu and N. S. Balakrishnan. Upon release, the film was blockbuster and ran for 100 days in major cities. The movie was taken in black and white for 2 hours 8 minutes and 16 seconds. The rest was taken in Geva Color. This film was dubbed in Telugu as Anaganaga Oka Raju in year 1959.

Production

The story is based on Anthony Hope’s 1894 novel The Prisoner of Zenda, Justin Huntly McCarthy’s stage play If I Were King and the English movie Viva Zapata. MGR made his crew consisting of R. M. Veerappan, Vidwan V. Lakshmanan and S. K .T. Sami to watch the three productions. He gave them his suggestions regarding the outline he had in mind and after several brainstorming sessions, the team came up with an imaginative story, tailoring it to make it more Indian.

Nadodi Mannan is a 1995 Tamil drama film directed by Manivasagam. The film features Sarath Kumar and Meena in lead roles. The film, produced by Rajeswari Manivasagam, had musical score by Deva and was released on 19 August 1995. The film became a failure at the box office.

Plot

Ram Sundar (Sarath Kumar), also known as Ramu, is a rich businessman and he is married to Meenakshi (Meena). They have an arrogant daughter Priya (Meena). Ramesh (Vignesh), a graduate who works as a car driver, falls in love with Priya and lies her to be a rich man. They fall in love with each other until Priya knows the truth. So, Ramu tells their past to his daughter.

In the past, Meenakshi was the daughter of a rich businessman (Kitty) while Ramu repaired slippers in the street with Ponnusamy (Goundamani). One day, Ramu saved Meenakshi from goons and Meenakshi fell in love with him. Ponnusamy and Meenakshi made a plan to seduce Ramu. Under the name of Mayil Aatha, Meenakshi has won Ramu's heart. Meenakshi's father didn't accept for the marriage, so Meenakshi refused her rich life and she got married with Ramu. Ramu worked hard and he became one of the richest man in India.
