Speedy (band)

Speedy were a five-piece Indie Pop/Britpop band from Sheffield, England, whose songs were known for their witty lyrics, often observing the darker and seedier side of working class life; "kitchen sink narratives" in the words of founder and lead singer Philip Watson. Their debut single on a major label Boy Wonder reached #56 in the UK Singles Chart in late 1996, but further chart success eluded them.

Career

Blammo!

Band members Philip Watson (Vocals), Bronwen Stone (Drums), Moony Wainwright (Bass), Paul Turner (Keyboards) and Richard Sutcliffe (Guitar) (who replaced Tracey Plant) had previously performed under the name Blammo! between 1988 and 1994. In this guise they issued five singles; three on Heywood based label Imaginary Records who also had Cud and The Mock Turtles on their roster. The band was invited to support The Beautiful South on three tours, which allowed them to perform in front of several thousand people at London Wembley Arena.

Speedy

Their first performance under the Speedy moniker was at the Spud Club on Sunday 3 April 1994. The following year, their track Sporting Life (produced by Danny Shackleton) was included on a limited edition 7" single. The Saturday Night Special: Silence is Golden EP was released by Leadmill Records, which was an imprint of the famous Sheffield venue of the same name. The notes on the back cover commented that The Leadmill had been voted the number one live venue/club in the UK in the 1994 Melody Maker music poll.

Speedy (musician)

Speedy (born Juan Antonio Ortiz Garcia on September 10, 1979) is a Puerto Rican Reggaeton artist.

In 2005, he released a remix of the single "Siéntelo" which was originally recorded for the 2001 various artists compilation, Sandunguero by DJ Blass. The remix featured Lumidee and hit the Top 10 in Belgium, Finland, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Other artists he has worked with include Plan B, Daddy Yankee and Lito & Polaco. Speedy is currently working on new mixtapes for his label Yoko-Joe Records.

"Tro" is a ballad in Swedish, written and sung by Swedish pop singer Marie Fredriksson in the Swedish pop duo Roxette. She scored a hit with the song in 1996, when it was released as a single and was it was released on her album I en tid som vår. The song is about belief, but the lyrics don't mention anything about religion.

Chart positions

The song peaked at #8 on the Swedish singles chart.

"Tro" was tested on the Sveriges Radio hitlist Svensktoppen, where it on 16 November 1996 entered the chart at #1. On 23 November 1996, it was still #1, and on 30 November 1996 the song was knocked out from Svensktoppen. "Tro" was also tested on the Sveriges Radios hitlist Tracks. On 26 October 1996 the song entered the list at #15. On 2 November 1996 the song peaked at #12. On 23 November 1996, the song was dropped down to #23, which was the song's last visit on that list.
