New York's 7th congressional district

New York's Seventh Congressional District is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in New York City. It includes parts of Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. Democrat Nydia Velázquez represents the district in Congress.

The district includes the Queens neighborhoods of Maspeth, Ridgewood, and Woodside, the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bushwick, Greenpoint, Red Hook, East New York, Brooklyn Heights, Sunset Park, and Williamsburg and part of Manhattan’s Lower East Side and East Village.

Until 2012, the 7th consisted of parts of Northern Queens and Eastern portions of the Bronx. The Queens portion included the neighborhoods of College Point, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and Woodside. The Bronx portion of the district included the neighborhoods of Co-op City, Morris Park, Parkchester, Pelham Bay, and Throgs Neck as well as City Island.

Like many Congressional districts around the country, the New York Seventh's boundaries were drawn so as to link together disparate and widely separated neighborhoods with a large percentage of minority voters (see majority-minority districts). While no minority in the district constitutes an absolute majority, the boundaries group together heavily Puerto Rican neighborhoods in three separate New York City boroughs. Not surprisingly, the gerrymandered Seventh has, since the last redistricting, elected a representative of Puerto Rican ancestry. New York State Route 7

New York State Route 7 (NY 7) is a 180-mile (290 km) state highway in New York in the United States. The highway runs from Pennsylvania Route 29 (PA 29) at the Pennsylvania state line south of Binghamton to Vermont Route 9 (VT 9) the Vermont state line east of Hoosick. Most of the road runs along the Susquehanna Valley, closely paralleling Interstate 88 (I-88) throughout that road's length. Portions of the highway route near the cities of Binghamton, Schenectady, and Troy date back to the early 19th century.

Binghamton area

NY 7 begins at the Pennsylvania state line south of Corbettsville, where the road connects to Pennsylvania Route 29 (PA 29). Like PA 29 to the south, NY 7 follows Snake Creek north to Corbettsville, where it meets NY 7A on the banks of the Susquehanna River. From Corbettsville northward, NY 7 becomes the riverside highway, following the river (as well as U.S. Route 11 or US 11 and I-81 on the opposite bank) through Conklin to eastern Binghamton, where it indirectly connects to US 11 via a bridge over the Susquehanna.

New York State Route 43

New York State Route 43 (NY 43) is a state highway in Rensselaer County, New York, in the United States. It extends for 24.00 miles (38.62 km) from Interstate 90 (I-90) exit 8 in North Greenbush to the Massachusetts state line, where it continues into Williamstown as Massachusetts Route 43. Most of NY 43 is a two-lane highway that passes through a mixture of rural and residential areas; however, its westernmost 2 miles (3.2 km) between I-90 and U.S. Route 4 (US 4) is a four-lane divided highway. NY 43 has an overlap with NY 66 in Sand Lake and intersects NY 22 in Stephentown.

When NY 43 was first assigned in the 1920s, it began near the village of Schoharie and ended in downtown Albany. Initially, the portion of modern NY 43 east of Averill Park was designated as part of New York State Route 7 in 1924. It was renumbered to New York State Route 45 by 1926 and became part of an extended NY 43 as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York. NY 43 was originally routed on Broadway and Washington Avenue in Rensselaer; however, it was rerouted to use 3rd Avenue and US 4 instead in the late 1960s.
