Nucor Corporation is the largest steel producer in the United States and is the largest "mini-mill" steelmaker (i.e. it uses electric arc furnaces to melt scrap steel as opposed to blast furnaces to melt iron). Nucor is North America's largest recycler of any material, recycling one ton of steel every two seconds. In 2015, the company produced and sold over 25 million tons of steel. Nucor operates 23 scrap-based steel production mills. It is a Fortune 150 company and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States.
Nucor produces steel bars (carbon and alloy steel), beams, sheet / flat rolled steel, plate, steel joists, joist girders, steel deck, fabricated concrete reinforcing steel, cold finished steel, steel fasteners, metal building systems, light gauge steel framing, steel grating, expanded metal, and wire and wire mesh. In addition, through its David J. Joseph Company subsidiary, Nucor also brokers ferrous and nonferrous metals, pig iron and HRI/DRI; supplies ferro-alloys; and processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap.
