2NBC

2NBC FM is a community radio station based in Peakhurst, New South Wales, Australia. Its broadcast area is the suburbs in the south and inner west of Sydney covering the area known as St George. This includes the municipalities of Canterbury, Hurstville, Rockdale, Marrickville, and Kogarah.

NBC FM is a volunteer run organisation and is funded through listener support, grants and limited commercial sponsorship. The station celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008.

History

2NBC was formed in 1974 by a group of local residents and the Narwee Baptist Church, interested in the idea of a community radio station. After test broadcasts in the early 1980s the group was granted a licence by the then Australian Broadcasting Tribunal to provide a community broadcast service to the south and inner west suburbs of Sydney. Although 2NBC was spearheaded by the team from Narwee Baptist Church, the station has always been managed and programmed independently to the church.

Current

In 2008 the City of Hurstville and 2NBC teamed up to record The Tales from Dragonhurst, a local history radio drama. Funded by the Australia Council for the Arts the production involved a cast and crew of 30 seniors and an orchestra. Eight episodes were recorded and broadcast and the series has been made available to all community radio stations in Australia.

Page (assistance occupation)

A page is an occupation in some professional capacity. Unlike the traditional pages where they were normally younger males, these pages tend to be older and can either be male or female.

Workplace

Pages are present in some modern workforces. US television network NBC's page program is a notable example of contemporary workplace pages.

Libraries

Some large libraries use the term 'page' for employees or volunteers who retrieve books from the "stacks," which are often closed to the public. This relieves some of the tedium from the librarians, who may occupy themselves with duties requiring their more advanced training and education.

Many legislative bodies employ student pages as assistants to members of the legislature during session. Legislative pages are secondary school or university students who are unpaid or receive modest stipends. They serve for periods of time ranging from one week to one year, depending on the program. They typically perform small tasks such as running errands, delivering coffee, answering telephones, or assisting a speaker with visual aids. Students typically participate primarily for the work-experience benefits.

The page in typography

In a book, the side of a leaf one rea is called the recto page and the other side is called the verso page. In a spread, one reads the verso page first and then reads the recto page of the next leaf. In English-language books, the recto page is on the right and the verso page is on the left.

Pagination

Pagination is the process of dividing a document into discrete pages, either electronic pages or printed pages. Today printed pages are usually produced by outputting an electronic file to a printing device, such as a desktop printer or a modern printing press. These electronic files may for example be Microsoft Word, PDF or QXD files. They will usually already incorporate the instructions for pagination, among other formatting instructions. Pagination encompasses rules and algorithms for deciding where page breaks will fall, which depend partly on cultural considerations about which content belongs on the same page: for example one may try to avoid widows and orphans. Some systems are more sophisticated than others in this respect. Before the rise of information technology (IT), pagination was a manual process: all pagination was decided by a human. Today, most pagination is performed by machines, although humans often override particular decisions (e.g. by inserting a hard page break).
