Luther Russell

Luther Russell (born November 30, 1970) is an American musician who has been recording since 1991, initially as lead singer/songwriter of the band, The Freewheelers, who made two albums for DGC and American, respectively.

He then went solo, starting with "Lowdown World" (1997), "Down At Kit's" (1999), and "Spare Change" (2001), all recorded while living in Portland, Oregon. It was also in the great northwest that Luther produced many independent records by such acclaimed artists as Richmond Fontaine and Fernando. Since relocating back to his hometown of Los Angeles in, he released his fourth solo record entitled "Repair", which was produced by Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Jayhawks, Ryan Adams). Luther and Ethan also co-produced the debut album of singer Sarabeth Tucek. He has also worked with The Relationship featuring Brian Bell of Weezer , co-producing their albums and latest single. After producing a string of albums and singles between 2007 to 2010 by artists such as Noah And The Whale, Folks, Horse Stories and many more, Luther released the critically acclaimed double-album, "The Invisible Audience" (2011). Luther has gone on to form Those Pretty Wrongs with Jody Stephens of legendary group Big Star. Their debut 7" was released in 2015 on Burger Records. The debut LP will be released in 2016. He is currently working on a new solo record to be released in the near future.

N.I.B.

"N.I.B." is a song released by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath. It first appeared as the fourth track on the band's 1970 debut album, Black Sabbath. The lyrics are in the first person from the point of view of Lucifer. Lyricist Geezer Butler has said that "the song was about the devil falling in love and totally changing, becoming a good person."

"N.I.B." begins with a bass solo by Geezer Butler, titled "Bassically" on some US releases. It involves the use of wah-wah on his bass and was recorded in one take, as the amp's volume control is audibly turned up before the distorted bass intro of "N.I.B." begins.

The song's main riff (as well Osbourne's vocal delivery) have been noted for their Cream-influenced sound - the song has even been referred to as "the raucous defiling of Cream".

Title meaning

The title was widely rumoured to have stood for "Nativity in Black" (or to a much lesser extent, "Name In Blood"). In a 1992 interview, Geezer Butler states that the title simply refers to Bill Ward's goatee at the time, which the rest of the band thought was shaped like a pen nib; also referred to as nibby. Apparently, Geezer Butler said: "Originally it was Nib, which was Bill's beard. When I wrote N.I.B., I couldn't think of a title for the song, so I just called it Nib, after Bill's beard. To make it more intriguing I put punctuation marks in there to make it N.I.B. By the time it got to America, they translated it to Nativity In Black."
