My Melody of Love

"My Melody of Love" is the title of a popular song from 1974 (see 1974 in music) by the American singer Bobby Vinton. Vinton adapted his song from a German song composed by Henry Mayer, and it appears on Vinton's album Melodies of Love.

Vinton came up with the idea to adapt Mayer's song while performing in Las Vegas, Nevada. The original song was called Herzen haben keine Fenster ("Hearts have no windows") and was a hit in Germany and Austria as performed by Austrian singer Elfi Graf. A version with newly written English lyrics, released as a single called "Don't Stay Away Too Long" by the British duo Peters and Lee earlier in 1974, failed to chart in the US but reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. Vinton's lyrics use a refrain that switches between English and Polish:

Moja droga, ja cię kocham,
Means that I love you so.
Moja droga, ja cię kocham,
More than you'll ever know.
Kocham ciebie całym sercem,
Love you with all my heart.

"My Melody of Love" was Vinton's highest charting US pop hit since "Mr. Lonely" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1964, nearly ten years before. The RIAA-certified gold single spent two weeks at number three on the Hot 100 chart in November 1974 and one week at number one on the Billboard easy listening chart, the singer's fourth song to top this chart. Its success led to Vinton's nickname "the Polish Prince". The song also became the theme-song of The Bobby Vinton Show, Vinton's variety show which ran in Canada on the CTV Network from 1975 to 1978. The song was also performed numerous times on the Lawrence Welk Show during the mid- to late-1970s.

Buddy Montgomery

Charles "Buddy" Montgomery (January 30, 1930, Indianapolis, Indiana – May 14, 2009) was an American jazz vibraphonist and pianist. He was the younger brother of Wes and Monk Montgomery. He and brother Monk formed The Mastersounds in the late 1950s and produced ten recordings. When The Mastersounds disbanded, Monk and Buddy joined their brother Wes on a number of Montgomery Brothers recordings, which were arranged by Buddy. They toured together in 1968, and it was in the middle of that tour that Wes died. Buddy continued to compose, arrange, perform, produce, teach and record, producing nine recordings as a leader.

Biography

Buddy first played professionally in 1948; in 1949 he played with Big Joe Turner and soon afterwards with Slide Hampton. After a period in the Army, where he had his own quartet, he joined The Mastersounds as a vibraphonist with his brother Monk, pianist Richie Crabtree and drummer Benny Barth in 1957. He led the "Montgomery-Johnson Quintet" with saxophonist Alonzo "Pookie" Johnson from 1955 to 1957. His earliest sessions as a leader are from the late 1950s. He played briefly with Miles Davis in 1960. After Wes Montgomery’s death in 1968, Buddy became active as a jazz educator and advocate. He founded organizations in Milwaukee, where he lived from 1969 to 1982; and Oakland, California, where he lived for most of the 1980s, that offered jazz classes and presented free concerts.

Onegai My Melody (Japanese: おねがいマイメロディ, Hepburn: Onegai mai merodi, lit. Please My Melody) is a Japanese anime series produced by Studio Comet, based on the Sanrio character My Melody. The anime is directed by Makoto Moriwaki, who directed High School! Kimengumi The Movie and produced by Hideyuki Kachi and Kazuya Watanabe. The series was written by Takashi Yamada, who wrote the Anime Adaptation of Yumeiro Pâtissière with character designs from Tomoko Miyakawa. It ran on TV Osaka and TV Tokyo from April 3, 2005 to March 26, 2006, spanning up to 52 episodes.

Onegai My Melody marks as Studio Comet's first anime series based on a Sanrio Character, which gained 3 official sequels plus a mini movie alongside the airing of Jewelpet the Movie: Sweets Dance Princess in theaters. This became a staple to the studio and to Sanrio as they expanded further to produce Jewelpet after the fourth series. The theme in the series revolves around Music and Dreams, which is referenced to the Magical Items My Melody and Kuromi has and to the episodes of each 4 series.

My Melody is the debut album by female rapper, Queen Pen. The album was released on December 16, 1997 by Lil' Man Records (distributed by Interscope Records) and was produced by Teddy Riley. The album went to #78 on the Billboard 200, #13 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #1 on the Top Heatseekers, and had three charting singles "Man Behind the Music", "All My Love" and "Party Ain't a Party".

An instrumental version recorded by Billy Vaughn was the highest-charting version on the Billboard charts in 1955. Other charting versions in 1955 were by David Carroll, by The Four Aces, and by Leo Diamond.

The recording by Billy Vaughn was released by Dot Records as catalog number 15247. It first reached the Billboard Best Seller chart on December 1, 1954 and lasted 27 weeks on the chart, peaking at #2.

The recording by David Carroll was released by Mercury Records as catalog number 70516. It first reached the Billboard Best Seller chart on December 29, 1954 and lasted 17 weeks on the chart, peaking at #9. This was Carroll's only hit on the Billboard best seller chart. Another Carroll version, featuring a narration by Paul Tremaine, was released on Mercury 70521. This version was shown as a best-selling version in Cashbox for most of "Melody Of Love"'s extensive chart run.

Melody of Love (German: Melodie der Liebe) is a 1932 German operetta film directed by Georg Jacoby and starring Richard Tauber, Petra Unkel and S.Z. Sakall. It premiered on 24 April 1932. It is also known in English by the alternative title Right to Happiness.
