My Immortal

"My Immortal" is a song by American rock band Evanescence from their debut studio album Fallen (2003). It was released by Wind-up Records on December 8, 2003, as the third single from the album. The song was entirely written by guitarist Ben Moody, with the exception of the bridge, which was later written by lead singer Amy Lee, and it was produced by Dave Fortman. "My Immortal" was included on their EP release Mystary (2003) and on the demo album Origin (2000). The version originally from Origin was later included on Fallen. The single version of the song was called "band version" because of the additional band performing the bridge and final chorus of the song.

"My Immortal" is a piano rock song written in slow and free tempo. Moody was rumored to have been inspired to write it after the death of his grandfather. Lyrically, it talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." Critical reception towards the song was positive, with critics complimenting its piano melody. In 2005 it received a nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 47th Grammy Awards. The song was also commercially successful, peaking within the top ten in more than ten countries. It also peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in Canada, Greece and the US Adult Pop Songs chart. The single was certified gold in the United States, and platinum in Australia.

My Immortal (fan fiction)

My Immortal is a Harry Potter fan fiction story which has been described as a "popular 'bad' fanfic" and "the worst fanfic of all time." It is often seen as an example of entertainingly bad writing.

Written by Tara Gilesbie under the pseudonym XXXbloodyrists666XXX, it was originally posted on FanFiction.Net in 44 parts, starting in 2006. The story amassed over ten thousand reviews, with eight thousand of them being negative before it was removed by the site's administrators in 2008. After the story's deletion, copies continued to circulate on the Internet. A number of YouTube users have made videos spoofing the story. The story has been humorously examined by the websites TV Tropes and Cracked.com. A web series based on the fanfic has been produced with the episodes airing on YouTube.

Synopsis

The protagonist of the story is Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way, a seventeen-year-old vampire who attends Hogwarts as a member of Slytherin House. Hogwarts is depicted as being divided between two cliques, the goths and the preps. Ebony and all the sympathetic characters are part of the goth clique while the members of the prep clique are portrayed unsympathetically. Many of the main characters of Harry Potter are given gothic makeovers, moved to the Slytherin House, and renamed.
