An affine bundle is a fiber bundle with a general affinestructure group of affine transformations of its typical fiber of dimension . Therefore, an affine connection is associated to a principal connection. It always exists.
For any affine connection , the corresponding linear derivative of an affine morphism defines a
unique linear connection on a vector bundle . With respect to linear bundle
coordinates on , this connection reads
Since every vector bundle is an affine bundle, any linear connection on
a vector bundle also is an affine connection.
If is a vector bundle, both an affine connection
and an associated linear connection are
connections on the same vector bundle , and their
difference is a basic soldering form on . Thus, every affine
connection on a vector bundle is a sum of a linear
connection and a basic soldering form on .
"Connection" is a song released by the Britpop group Elastica. It was originally released in 1994 as a single and the album version was not released until 1995 on their self-titled debut.
The song was the subject of controversy, due to its overt similarity to another band's work. The intro synthesizer part (later repeated as a guitar figure) is lifted from the guitar riff in Wire's "Three Girl Rhumba" and transposed down a semitone. A judgment resulted in an out-of-court settlement and the credits were rewritten.
Connection is an album by trumpeter/bandleader Don Ellis recorded in 1972 and released on the Columbia label. The album features big band arrangements of pop hits of the day along with Ellis' "Theme from The French Connection" which won him a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement in 1973
Reception
Thom Jurek of Allmusic said "Ellis devotees will no doubt delight in Connection because of its abundance of sass, humor, and imagination, while jazz purists will shake their heads in disgust and others will greet the album with mix of curious bewilderment, a good-natured (hopefully) chuckle, and a perverse kind of glee". On All About Jazz, Jim Santella observed "the unique character of Ellis' earlier work is missing on this recently reissued recording from 1972. He and the bandmembers solo less often, preferring instead to let the music flow with popular melodies. Vocals are added to several selections. Electric guitar and electric bass take center stage much of the time. Keyboards surround the band with lush scenery. Still, some of Ellis' trademark features are still there. His trumpet rages powerfully on "Superstar" and his flugelhorn floats gently on "Alone Again (Naturally)"."
The song was thought of by Sermon after buying a copy of Gaye's Midnight Love and the Sexual Healing Sessions album, which overlook some of the original album's earlier mixes. After listening to an outtake of Gaye's 1982 album track, "Turn On Some Music" (titled "I've Got My Music" in its initial version), Sermon decided to mix the vocals (done in a cappella) and add it into his own song. The result was similar to Natalie Cole's interpolation of her father, jazz great Nat "King" Cole's hit, "Unforgettable" revisioned as a duet. The hip hop and soul duet featuring the two veteran performers was released as the leading song of the soundtrack to the Martin Lawrence & Danny DeVito comedy, "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" The song became a runaway success rising to #2 on Billboard's R&B chart and was #1 on the rap charts. It also registered at #21 pop giving Sermon his highest-charted single on the pop charts as a solo artist and giving Gaye his first posthumous hit in 10 years following 1991's R&B-charted single, "My Last Chance" also bringing Gaye his 41st top 40 pop hit. There is also a version that's played on Adult R&B stations that removes Erick Sermon's rap verses. The song was featured in the 2011 Matthew McConaughey film The Lincoln Lawyer.
