Murad

Murad (Arabic: مراد) or variants Murat, Mourad, Morad and Mrad is an Arabic, Azerbaijani, Turkish, Kurdish,Persian and Armenian male given name and is commonly used throughout the Muslim world and Arabic world.

Etymology

Murad means "desired" or "wished" in Arabic. It is derived from the Arabic quadriliteral root "Arad" meaning to desire.

The name Murad stems from the Persian word "morad", which means "fulfilment of a vow vowed" or simply wish'.

    Murad, also known as Eunuch's Motherhood, is an Urdu/Hindi language television drama film directed by Kamran Qureshi, written by Zafar Mairaj and produced by Iram Qureshi.

    The film is based on the motherhood of a eunuch, the term to describe a transgender person. Sohail Asghar played a role of eunuch called Saima, who kept struggling all life and finally succeeded in winning the love of her adopted son, when he became a father himself.

    Murad was awarded Best Telefilm of the year, Kamran Qureshi won Best Film Director Award and first prize of Rs. 500,000 in Indus Telefilm Festival 2003.Sultana Siddiqui presented special award to Sohail Asghar in The 1st Indus Drama Awards 2005, on his outstanding performance in Murad.

    The film was broadcast in 2004 on Indus TV Network in Pakistan & UAE and in 2005 on Zee TV UK & USA as part of film series 'Maa Aur Mamta', which consist of 13 films including Murad.

    Plot

    The story revolves round a eunuch (Hijra) "Saima" who adopts a helpless child 'Murad'. This child does not like her profession of dancing. Saima tries hard to fit in other professions as a male but people tease her at every place. Then she again tries to get job as a woman but fails. She then starts begging to earn her living but when Murad watches her as a beggar on the road, he gets cross. She then sends Murad to hostel and starts dancing again to fulfill the expenses of his studies. She never goes to see Murad so as to avoid his hatred.

    Murad (actor)

    Murad (1910–1997) was an Indian character actor who appeared in more than 100 Bollywood films from the early 1940s through to the end of the 1980s playing character roles of a father, police officer, judge and an emperor. His son Raza Murad is also an actor in the Bollywood industry who is known for playing mostly villain roles. His great-nieces are actresses Sonam, Zeenat Aman and Sanober Kabir.

    His career began in the early 1940s when he made his acting debut in the 1943 film Najma which was directed by Mehboob Khan. The film featured him playing the father of Ashok Kumar despite being only a year older than him. He became a regular with director Mehboob Khan's films such as Anmol Ghadi (1946), Andaz (1949), Aan (1952) and Amar (1954). His other notable film roles included Do Bigha Zamin (1953) as a cruel landowner, Devdas (1955) as Devdas's father and the Hollywood film Tarzan Goes to India (1962) as a maharajah. From the 1960s through to the end of the 1980s he appeared mostly as a judge or police commissioner. He died in his birthplace in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh in 1997 but the precise date is unknown.
