Mulund

Mulund is a suburb in north-east of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India about 32 kilometers from it. It is also a railway station on the Central Railway line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway. It is nestled alongside the foothills of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park with easy access to the Eastern Express Highway and Navi Mumbai through the Mulund-Airoli Bridge.

History

Historical records of Mulund date back to the time of Mauryan empire ruled by Prathestha Misr, the governor appointed by Emperor Chandragupta Maurya. Prathestha Misr was responsible for the development of Mulund and surrounding areas and its integration into the broader principality of Vidharbha rashtra.

In early historical texts including Mauryaniti and Mauryaupvaadan, dating back to 200 BCE, Prathestha Misr is described as a neurotic ruler prone to fits of schizophrenia. Prathestha, known to locals as Praats, was a consummate alcoholic throwing grand events and traveling extensively in search of new intoxicants. Dated inscriptions hint at several monuments of that time being blessed by Prathestha through public urination at construction sites, which was an established practice of the time.

Mulund Vidhan Sabha constituency (Marathi: मुलुंड विधानसभा मतदारसंघ) is one of the 288 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of Maharashtra state in western India.

Overview

Mulund constituency is one of the 26 Vidhan Sabha constituencies located in the Mumbai Suburban district.

Mulund is part of the Mumbai North East Lok Sabha constituency along with five other Vidhan Sabha segments, namely Vikhroli, Ghatkopar West, Ghatkopar East, Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar and Bhandup West in the Mumbai Suburban district.
